I was going to buy in early during the pre-sale, but didn't have $300 to cover the membership fee.

know of a decent way to buy stocks without getting charged for every little thing?

    Thanks Ivan!
    Yup
I heard etrade is good? I like Schwab but it's the only broker I have ever known. I have a few direct purchase stocks, but I don't think GoPro does that. Only problem I have with Schwab is their tax statements confuse the hell out of me, and so does their website for that matter.

I've had a schwab account forever so my fee on 50 shares was $8. I also set it up for DRIP so I don't have to worry as much about buying more if I stay in long term..

I tightened it a little more and it got better. Ill double check tomorrow to see its status. I feel like its at its max as far as tightening though.
If you got any questions about the HPD process let me know. I went through the entire process in 2011. Turned it down to go EMS. I don't know how you prepare for the psych. Questions were like "What would you rather be: A)Librarian B)Florists C)Dress Maker"
And when you go to turn in your background check, be prepared for an interview with a detective. Wear a suit, not an aloha shirt. Didn't see that one coming.

I was almost sure I was being asked the same question at least 10 times over and over, I actually had a good 15-20min phone call with my Detective when I didn't get to go on, ironic that my best dialogue was there and not earlier.

putting switches up there is more work than i'd like to do...and that's a good 40-50ft of wire if not more

I like overhead too! I keep wanting to do that to mine.. But I'd mount the breaker closer to the battery. I like my breakers to have less than 6" of wire from the battery to the breaker.
Dress maker, always pick dress maker :p

What was your score? I want to get a sense of the average test scores so I know where I fall since they pull from the list based on test score.. And how long did it take them to pull your name?

Well, I don't have a suit.. I do have a very nice set of dress paints and a long sleeve button up shirt. Its what I wear to weddings and such.. Hope that works :D

I have done a few background checks for firearms and federal jobs.. I assume I'll pass this one too?
That was for the "sorry, but we're going another direction" call? Or was it a last ditch interview?

I scored an 83 and passing was 80. I think they just took everyone who passed since so many people end up getting disqualified. Not sure how they'll do it this time though. The whole process moved fast. Yeah same background as federal and they ask for your tax info for the past couple years, all your official transcripts from schools need to be mailed to them, and i think they peek into your bank account. It was a lot of work. When you start moving on, look into getting a suit jacket that goes with what you already got. You're going to feel underdressed when all the other candidates show up dressed up. And wear it to everything except the physical agility and medical.

just the "sorry, you didn't pass" and told me I should try again...but the eligibility date starts 1 year from that call, so would have been pushed back a good year and half, and then another 3-6 month wait to test...

    truth :D

+1 for dressing up. slacks and a nice long sleeve button shirt should be the minimum. I showed up with some nice jeans and a short sleeve button shirt to drop off some papers and they gave me the "need to look professional if you want to work here" speech.

imo the process is more blown up than it should be, but I guess it does help to weed some people out.

    I got a 76, passing is 65 now.. I thought for sure I Was gonna be mid 80's :/

I'll look into a jacket. How long did you have to prepare for the interview? Did they tell you to come in tomorrow? Or in two weeks?

I guess I should put all my savings (mattress cash) in the bank so I don't look like I'm a total looser

Yeah you'll have time. I think the next process is a orientation day where they literally tell you every step and when it will be. Not sure if the agility is before or after that. I can check my old papers when I get home tomorrow. When you turn in the background check, I think its within a time period and you just show up. I didn't dress up thinking I was just dropping off papers, thats when they sat me down with a detective and she did a mini interview. I was not prepared at all but somehow pulled it off, except for not wearing a suit. I think they check the taxes and your money situation to see if your in debt. Heard its risky for them to hire guys in debt because its easy for those guys to take bribes and stuff. Steps include: orientation, background check/mini interview, agility, psych written, psych interview with psychiatrists, panel interview with officers, lie detector, then medical exam.

Damn, all those interviews make me nervous. I'm mostly an open book, but I always think those panels are specifically looking for reasons to kick you out.. Looking so hard that they start to make me wonder if they see something I don’t.

I guess I’d be okay on the finances. Never had any debt and always pay CC’s in full to avoid interest. Just have about $100 in my bank account because counting the cash under my bed before I buy something really makes me think twice about buying it :p
