Need help from guys with bigger/new tires

So I got some new 285 KM2's yesterday With the sensors swapped over. Afterwards, I noticed that my TPMS sensor light flashed for a minute then remained on. According to the owners manual this means there's a sensor malfunction. I've been trying to initialize the tpms system but it won't let me due to the malfunction. Are you guys having this problem too or have u guys been able to initialize the system without any problems??

 

Nope. Mine came fucked. Been on for over 1 year and a half now.

He's going to have to get the sensors reset at the stealership. Although I'd hit up a fountain tire or something like that and see if they can do it cheaper.

 

I don't see why he'd need them "reset". He's got a broken sensor if the lights are going off...If the reset button under the steering column doesn't reset the pressure setting for the system...then something else is wrong. I know it's possible to break sensors as the tires are installed.

I'd go back to where put together the tires and see what they say...hit them with the "this light came on after you guys worked on my tires" and then look at the dealer.

 

It might not be that the sensor is broken parse. It might be that they reset themselves when they got taken out and just need their head kicked in to right them again.

These things are stupid sensitive to anything. Even harsh language.

 

Well i made an appointment to take it into my dealership tomorrow to see what's up. Hopefully it's something needing to be reset cuz I've heard these things can get expensive. Anyone know the exact price of them?

 

What is your rim size? Much rubbing issues?

 

16" rims. Minor rubbing at full turn which was fixed with very mi or trimming (about 4"x4" piece cut)

 

Whoever installed your wheels broke one of your sensors period, there is no such thing as a "reset" or "re-initialize" for Toyota's TPMS. Save yourself a trip and a diagnosis fee by not going to the dealer (trust me I work for one) and return to whoever installed your tires have them dismount them and verify which one they broke. Then get it in writing that they will reimburse you for the expense cause your gonna end up back at the Toyota dealer as we are the only ones who can program your new sensor. I lost count of how many people come to see me thinking their sensor is not broken and it just needs to be "reset" only to find out that a "reset" is gonna cost them $230 which is a the cost of a sensor/installation/programming. Hope this helps

just in case my tire shop is really retarded (which they probably are, judging from this). How would you know its broken?

 

It will be physically broken either at the base of the sensor (silver portion meets the black portion) or more commonly there will be a hairline fracture on the black portion of the transmitter. Who installed your tires?

Well if they took your money to do the work, they should be able to cover for their mistake. SOunds like a broken sensor to me. I reset the TPMS often and have no problems at all. I'd just be firm with them that it was their error. Good luck.

 

i can't really help you as mines a 99 nd doesnt have TPMS. try taking the truck to the dealer if its stil under warentee..

 

Well they didnt charge me for labor at all. Nevertheless though, theyre still responsible for my truck while its in their hands.

 

Well I went back to the tire shop today and they took a few of the sensors off and they were all looking good (I inspected them myself too). Using a TPMS scanner tool he "read the pressure" of the tire and 3 of them were reading 78 psi, 1 was reading 35 (which was correct). We checked out the ones that were malfunctioning and they looked perfectly fine. He did, however, agree to order me 3 new ones for free and promised that the problem would be solved correctly.

 

hopefully it goes good. toyota is usually very good with that. deff let me kno how that goes. make sure wen u get new sensors in the tire that the r fully balanced nd rotated b4 u drive the truck outta the lot.
