You should cut the bars and run them perpendicular to your truck. if you mount them parallel to the truck the bars will not line up with the All-Pro rack. I had CVT mount my tent and we noticed that it would be better to cut the bars after the tent was already mounted so my tent is a bit off center.

I plan to cut mine down and run them perpendicular to my bed so I can make sure the tent is centered on the rack.

Finally got the new Mt. Bachelor mounted on my Taco. I think I need to adjust my Yakima bars a little closer together to better support it. Looking forward to spending some nights in it this weekend!

Nice set up! Can you tell me how you installed the bottom piece of the outer cover for the tent? That is the last piece of the puzzle before taking it out on its maiden voyage this weekend!

Do you mean the non-zippered edge of the travel cover? It just slides into the channel on the base of the tent at the hinged side.

Thanks MTgirl, I actually just figured that part out. I think the other zippered part I found must be part of the annex.

Does the cover for your Bachelor have a raised section to fit around the ladder? Mine does not and that caused the zipper to be very tight when zipping up the back side of the tent cover.

Yes, my cover has a section for the ladder. Maybe the covers vary for the two piece ladders (like mine) and the telescoping ones which have a lower profile when closed up. Maybe you got the wrong cover. :notsure: As a temporary fix try taking the bottom half of the ladder off and see how the cover fits then.

Yeah I have the sliding type ladder as well, so I wonder if it the wrong cover???. It looks like it has an extra piece of material where the ladder is, but it is pretty tight. Might have to just take the ladder off for the traveling and then put it back on in camp. I left a message at CVT as well, just waiting to hear back. Either way, this is not a show stopper for me! I will be sleeping in it this weekend!

Looking at pictures of CVT tents on TW and on CVT's site, it looks like all of them have a raised section for the ladder.

That is pretty snug....I wonder if they redesigned the covers recently?
I'd be careful having those velcro straps too tight. I know I have to leave a little slack in mine or the velcro tends to pop loose - usually while on the interstate - and then the straps are flailing around.

Super excited to get my RTT mounted up. I was planning on two yakima bars over my cab. I see people have done this before on the cab and on a topper, but i am paranoid because how much $$$ this thing cost and just want to do everything right. Anybody sees any flaws in me doing this because on this forum seems like 90% of people have bed racks. Thanks for the advice

I plan to do the same with my Yakima bars above my cab. Should be fine.

So I found another flaw in the materials that were sent with my CVT RTT. I mounted it on my Yakima bars on my topper and wanted to move the Yakima bars inward a bit after mounting the tent last night. When I went to remove the hardware, the locknuts would not come of and rounded out the aluminum piece that rides in the support channels. I tried using vise grips to hold the bolt and that didn't even work. I ended up having to cut the bolts off with a grinder. Now to the hardware store to replace all the junk hardware that came with the tent! Guess I was expecting a little more based on all the hype from people on here!

Here is a picture of what happened to the bolt from trying to hold it with the vise grips. I had a good hold of it, but it would not come off. And this was just put on last night, not even 24 hours had past since it was installed.
Here is a picture of why the vise grips were needed. The head of the bolt that rides in the channel of the cross support does not fit properly and causes it to round out right away.

I hope to find new bolts that fit better in the sliding piece that rides in the channel and then use a nut and lock washer instead of the nylock nuts.

BVCO, regarding your cover, I bought a "used" Mt. Shasta from a local seller that bought it two seasons ago and never ever used it. It has the telescoping ladder and a cover that has a two inch strip of Velcro beneath the perimeter zipper on the cover. It also has the non-zippered edge of the cover on one of the short edges, so my cover folds over nicely onto the roof of the truck and then I roll it up.

After speaking to Bobby, who was very helpful, he recommended that I ditch the telescoping ladder for a two-piece, which are standard on the current model Mt. Shasta. I ordered one, and upon delivery, I made the swap. Guess what? The cover was too tight to fit over the two-piece ladder, just as you described.

I wasn't willing to force it along, so I called again to seek advice. After my description of the issue, Bobby realized that the problem was with the cover, and that a change in manufacturer or something had also led to changes in a couple of minor design elements on the Shasta, and the telescoping ladder and it's cover were swapped out for the two-piece ladder and a proper cover that now also lacks the Velcro closure in addition to the zipper.

Long story, but the last convo I had with Bobby was that he was expecting a shipment of covers late June. I am in line for one, and in the meantime, have reverted back to the telescoping ladder for the time being.

I will miss being able to fold the cover over toward the roof when the new cover arrives though. That is super convenient, especially when using the annex, since I don't have to remove the cover. Nice! :)

Bobby will make it right. Keep in mind that they are moving this week though.

One other thing. I have found that stainless steel bolts and nuts often do not play well together. Occasionally, they will seize if you don't use a dab of anti-seize on them before tightening.

This is not a reflection on the quality of the material, in my experience. I have never had this issue when I've used anti-seize.

I should also add that, if I look at my cover from the side (in line with the ladder), there is no additional material for the ladder. No "ladder pocket", if you will. The material forming the side panel is a straight cut all the way across.

I wonder if MTgirl's is this way as well, as she doesn't mention having any issues with her cover accommodating her two-piece ladder.
