Hey everyone. I finally bought a tacoma this week. I bought a Super White 2007 DCSB, 6spd MT, TRD-Sport, 4x4, towing package. I've driven a TON since I bought it, and have been tracking my mileage. I'm gettin 15-16mpg HIGHWAY! No mods. This is not normal! Any ideas on how I can improve? I plan on changing the exhaust to a cherrybomb, and a 6" lift down the road (I know it won't help my problem AT all.) What kinds of mods can I do to help my MPG? Thank you so much in advance!

have you checked the air filter?????
When was the last tune up?
    It might be time.
Do not panic-check next tank (fillup) MPG.
    my hwy-mpg--75-80 mph--about 20.

It's probably more normal than you think, depending on how fast you drive on the highway. If I do anything over 70, I'm 17-18 mpg. To get 20 mpg in these things you need to be doing 55-60 and just cruising. Your 6 speed also hurts you 1 mpg or so.

Added note--how many miles on the ODO?
Plugs are suggested to be replaced every 30K

Sounds like past owner didn't do any maintenance.
Toyota didn't even have free service back then.
I'd do every suggested preventative maintenance in the manual up to the mileage that's on it.
Some think "Toyota" and never do anything to it.Sad.

Til' then keep ur  up!

some of this, a little of that
You have had it a week, how many fillups have you done? What size are the tires? My worst mileage is always in the first month or so of getting a different car/truck. Too much right foot usually :)

That was part of the reason I wanted an auto. But it will only gain you a couple more mpg.

That configuration is rated at 19 HWY so if the truck is totally stock and is tuned up then your MPG is because of your driving habits. I average over 24 HWY 22 mixed driving with the same engine and stick shift. I have gotten 25.993. There are no mods that can be added to increase your MPG. Mods will only decrease it. It is all done at the throttle and how it is applied.

For suggestions keep the tack under 2000 rpm. When shifting I only use 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th. I shift at 1500. That alone will increase your MPG considerably. I also use pure gas, TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline, which will increase your MPG about 10 percent over ethanol blend.

How fast are you driving? That's a big factor too. Once you get. Over 65-70 the mpgs drop quickly.

Its a god damn conspiracy between the auto makers and the oil companies.
This is the 21st century and we all should be getting 137.34 miles to the gallon but on a lighter note try a full tune up.

My commute has a 5-6000' elevation change and is around 65 miles one way right now but I'm getting 18.5 MPG with the 6speed. I have around 4,000 miles on it so I have only filled up a hand full of times but i've gotten anywhere from 19.3 to 17.7 I think it depends where I'm filling it up cause I will bet on my descent home i'm getting 30 and my way up i'm probably getting 10. And I'm going 80mph.. RPM around 3K the entire commute unless I'm climbing a steep grade then i'm dropping to 4th to keep 80. Usually put it in 5th going up and coast 6th going down hills.

I've been doing this commute for a while and usually just drive kleenax cars so I can drive them to the junk yard when they're done and I can attest to usually getting a lot less than the government fuel economy rating for vehicles the way I drive them. I'm just driving the tacoma till I get another beater fwd car:D

I have never seen the + side of 17. I have 45,000 and I think the very best was 16.9 on flat I-5 between Sacramento and So Cal. With my added equipment, I average between 15.2 and 16.8.

    +1

I have the 2.7, but at 60-65 I'm in the mid to high 20s
    At 75+ I'm down to 22.
Around town, local trips only, I'm down in the 19 range.
