thanks guys!! i was hesitant to go up lead king basin solo and not knowing the trail other than reading the fun treks book over and over thinking to myself just do it!! I knew i didnt want to do the whole loop back into marble so we headed up to the basin and turned around back to our camp site.

this would be an awesome area to play around for a few days, do the lead king basin loop and then come back around pack up camp and head up lead king basin to devils punch bowl and out scholfield pass into crested butte. would be an epic camping wheeling trip!!

Wow. A lot less water than I expected.

And I thought there was a major trail blowout last week or so?

I have no idea what the Boulder Ranger office lady was talking about, there was no flood damage whatsoever. The water levels were def low for this time of year for sure. I'm wondering if that particular spot just didn't get as much snow as other areas in CO?

I ran it stock about 6 or 7 times when I had close to 100k on the truck, it was interesting.

    Really?

It's a fun trail. There's about 4 awesome camp spots on the MSV portion of the loop too.

And the Coney Flats hike is gorgeous.

find a great spot, plan it around a new moon so its not putting off much light and the milky way is as visible as possible. put the DSLR on a tripod, starting peramiters should be ISO 2000, F stop as wide open as possible, F 4.0 in my case, 20 to 30 sec exposures and shoot away!! :D

I camped there this time 2 years ago. It snowed on us that night in July and we froze our asses off! The campsites were right next to the creek and you can catch some trout! Definitely one of the places I want to go back to.
