Not surprising really, but I am surprised to see no Subaru? Traded my wife's 2011 Outback after 2 years of usage for a new 2013 and lost maybe $2K in two years. Then I bought a new 2013 Subaru WRX base in 2012. Drove that a year and barely 8K miles, sold it to CarMax which gave me $200 more than I paid new for it (And I paid sticker new for the car)

I agree, I just sold my 07' for $20,000 with just over 100,000 miles on it. that was at well over 60 percent retained value and it was 7 years old.

it involves all Taco's presumably so all the 2wd 5 lug work trucks are included maybe that's why it seems a bit low.

Toyota means you might as well buy new.
If you buy used you will almost pay new pricing.

    wow:thumbsup:

Generally the lower the spec the truck is, the higher the re-sale value. I had a 2007, 5-lug, reg cab, auto in white, I purchased new in 2006 for $15,800. Drove the truck 2 years and 48K miles. My first kid arrives, and I decide I want a crew cab truck to make life easier with a car seat. Double Cab Tacoma's were a lot more money than I wanted to spend, so I traded the '07 reg cab in for a new '08 Frontier, Crew Cab, V6, 4WD. In short I got a pretty loaded 4x4 Crew Cab Frontier for less money than a new PreRunner, Double Cab equivalent would have cost me. (Kick myself for trying to save a buck buying that Frontier hated ever second of owning that POS)

The Nissan dealer gave me $15,200 as a trade, and sold the new 4x4, Crew Cab Frontier that had an MSRP of $28,900 to me for $24,500.

Incidentally, drove that Frontier, two years, and barely got $18K for it (Doesn't hold value as well as a Tacoma)

One thing I wonder though, is that new 2014 Tacoma's decently equipped are $35K. I've seen "Limited Edition" long beds on Toyota lots for $39  I don't see these trucks still worth anywhere close to that in 5-7 years, but that's just me.

That Nissan dealer REALLY wanted my Tacoma badly, they kept shedding cash off the Frontier price it was crazy. In fact I thought I left something in it the next day, called the dealer to see if I could swing back by and check. They said it was sold a few hours ago.

    Totally agree... my thoughts too.

    I bought my 2006 in 2006 with 4000 miles on it for $24,000, I traded it in 2013 with 175,000 for $12,000.

Article said it was 18k price (single cab likely) and i can believe 6x percent for that one; for a 30k+ vehicle can also believe 75 percent easy, esp with kept up maintenance records.
