    +2 to that

I hope it finally puts to rest the "choke master" saying and shows the right muffler for your truck helps whether it's flowmaster or mangaflow (fingers crossed flowmaster doesn't lose any HP/TQ )

    You're welcome. :)
I'm doing this just to satisfy my own curiosity about flow design. It's something I've been fascinated with for most of my life.

My first motorcycle was a 1965 2 cycle Yamaha 250. It was the first year with a 5 speed transmission and automatic oil injection. I worked in a Chinese restaurant next door to the local Yamaha dealer to save up enough money to buy one brand new.

And, man oh man, when you removed the baffle restrictions, the resonant tuning on those open expansion chambers would kick in, and that bike ripped! It sounded truly wicked. Next year it will be a half century I've been riding motorcycles. :)

I built a custom exhaust on my bike so I could put Supertrapp tuning disks on it. ;)

Back from the muffler shop and this is how it sounds... :)

    Flowmaster:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMv-imsBZLI

    Magnaflow:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2X9wPQE2Zw

My camera uses an audio equalizer when recording so they both sound about the same volume, but the Flowmaster is definitely a louder muffler. It's really deep, mellow and smooth, with no rice at all... quite similar to the Magnaflow sound except that it's louder and more throaty.

Driving impressions: I've only driven it just a few miles so far. Most of the sound stays outside the truck. With the windows up there's no cab drone except when the engine is under a heavy load at 2,000 rpms. That's the loudest it gets inside. The Magnaflow did that too, it just wasn't as loud. The engine seems to rev quicker off idle, but that's a purely subjective impression. The dyno will be the final word on that. :)

I'm resetting the battery so that the ECU can relearn the new operating parameters, and will drive it for around a week or so before it gets dyno tested.

Nice scooters.... No computer right now... Will watch vids later from PC. I know like the distinct throaty rumble of the flowmaster over the magnaflow but that's just my opinion. The super 44 really woke up the truck...... At startup it sounds like open headers, then as it warms up it mellows just a hair..... Then keeping things mellow and under 2K it sounds like a beast and above that depending on throttle modulation it can remain beast or go to raped ape in a blip. I barely hear the blower now..... That's the only downfall...... Although if ur looking for it hard enough, u can always find a roots whine.

As for the "chokemaster" I just hated thinking about buying two mufflers just to get the right sound (blown and no cats), when all I had to do was get 1 flowmaster. Cost a few HP maybe.... But I think I'll survive..... Got nothing but compliments and a "my dads Tacoma is across the street there and he says urs is badass"..... Coming from a 40ish yr old neighbor, I assume his pop is prolly 60..... So that's pretty cool the old goat approves :) And some one commented my neighbors must love me when they seen my video :) Lol..... It appears some do love the truck. I swear two have showed up on this street in the last year also.

I agree, the flowmaster is 10 times better sound! And a few horsepower is okay to lose because you can gain it back pretty easily! Especially with headers and cai and supercharger :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

Well, we don't yet know if the Flowmaster loses power. The dyno will hand down the final verdict on that.

I just did a Flowmaster acceleration test to compare to the Magnaflow test. They both feel pretty much the same although with the Flowmaster, you can hear some wavering when I shifted into second as the tires lost a bit of grip, and this run hit about 5 mph faster than the Magnaflow run. Both were done on the same road under the same conditions to make it reasonably comparative. But it's still just subjective when there are so many other variables.

    Subbed for the outcome.

But now after reading the thread you're making me want to put a delta 40 back under my tacoma now. I had a delta come loose and start rattling so I changed it to a comparable magnaflow muffler about a year and a half ago and instantly noticed what felt like significantly less off-idle power with the magnaflow as well as around a 1/2mpg avg drop in my truck. Plus I liked the deeper sound of the flowmaster.
    decisions decisions.

Ya... seriously thinking about a 50 now.
Looking forward to the dyno, but given the Mag didn't make any difference from stock, I'm not holding out for anything earth shattering.

Any news on the Flowmaster? I myself have a Flowmaster installed on my 02. Cant remember off-hand what model I got though, had it installed since 08. IM interested to see the dyno results from the Flowmaster.

I know, for myself, I went to the shop knowing I wanted a Flowmaster purely on the sound (this may have been ignorant on my part but hey you want what you want right?) I researched many exhausts including Thrush glasspacks, Flomasters, Borla cat-backs, etc. while trying to decide on mine and ended up with the Flowmaster. *Pops some popcorn and makes a fresh pot of sweet tea*

This is totally subjective, but today it also seemed to me that the Flowmaster has better tip in response than the Magnaflow.

I'll make certain that the Flowmaster dyno test begins with rolling on the throttle at 1,000 rpm in 4th gear, so as to begin recording at 1,100 rpms, just like the Magnaflow run did. I'm most interested in very low rpm performance (idle to 3,000 rpm). And if there actually is a difference, the dyno will record it.

Yeah, that was definitely the biggest surprise...

The irony that a straight through muffler didn't perform any better than a stock chambered muffler. So all the guys who kept their stock exhausts haven't really lost anything except some noise.

It's good to keep in mind that all the testing has been done on a 2.7, and so a direct inference wouldn't necessarily apply to the 4.0...

...but the general principle just might. ;)

I'll admit the 10 series is a bit much for the 4.0. I had a super 40 since new in '08 then switched to a super 10 a few years ago. The 40 has a deeper tone without the rasp that the 10 has. I've been thinking of going back to the 40. I had the 50 Delta flow on my 2.7 and liked it. Good sound out of a four cylinder.

I don't have any videos of the 40 but here are some from the super 10.

    Enjoy the rasp. :p

I have had a super 40 on my 13 and am putting it on my 14, also had two of the cats removed (the ones after the sensors) and I like the sound. It's deep and mellow when you're on it, as soon as you punch it it actually sounds like a jet engine haha everyone I've punched it for says they love the sound, or other tack owners around town always give me thumbs up. Granite the trucks loud, but I have videos in all scenarios

    Gotta quite reading your threads!
I'm already interested in the LCE because of the low end gains you got.
For me any mods would be about low RPM performance and MPG, if it sounds nice all the better.

It will be interesting to see what the Flowmaster does on the low end, looking forward to the results.
