I'm thinking about taking the wife and kid up in that area around the beginning of August. Your facebook pictures were awesome and it looks like an easy weekend camping trip! :)

OK, the other ones are a bit up the road from the sign, right after the switch back. Regardless, an AWESOME area/spot. So, did you try to go up Puchbowl at all, or just Lead King?

you are correct!! that site just up before the devils punchbowl and lead king split was taken, trust me i wanted that spot BAD!!! perched up a bit higher with a sick view down the valley. The winter photo is our exact camp spot, which we were a bit weary of because of the posted private property signs but we were on the trail side of the posted signs so figured we weren't trespassing. We walked up the devils punchbowl trail a bit looking for another camp site, then decided after setting up camp to drive up Lead King Basin all the way to where the switchbacks take you up and over back into marble CO

I want to go back and do devils punchbowl and scholfield pass down into crested butte now :D

Haha, we looked at that site and forwent it for that reason, but it sounds like it wasn't an issue. Here is my report from trying to do it last fall (I know you posted on it and maybe is what inspired you for your recent trip). I plan to do it again but maybe a week or two earlier to avoid the snow.

no problem at all!! had a bunch of people from the town of crystal come up and pass us on ATV's and all waived and smiled, as long as you arent behind those posted signs i dont see a problem at all. Keep me posted i could make a trip back through that area with you guys. I am a big fan of that area of colorado now!!

    hack job

Me and my family were just up there last weekend camping at Bogan Flats. We went to Marble and hiked around and looked at those crazy blocks of marble and I made my dad take his Tundy up the schofield pass road for a little ways. Really nice area.

you guys should post up here if you are interested in trail runs or meets in that area! I'm always too far away for most of the events that get planned here, so I'd love to do something closer to home.
