Okay to put 2001 TRD wheels on 2007 Tacoma?

This may be a question with an obvious answer, but I'm a new Tacoma owner (just 24 hrs) and I thought I'd ask for some expert advice before I made this next purchase. My 2007 Access Cab Tacoma 4x4 has the base steel wheels on it, and I want to upgrade asap to alloys and Rugged Trail tires.

I found this ad on the web (and the guy happens to be down the street from me):

"I recently lifted my 2001 Tacoma TRD extended cab and am selling the wheels/tires off of it. The wheels are the original Toyota TRD wheels w/ Toyota center caps. The tires are BFG Rugged Trail T/A size: P265/70R16"

Is there any problem with putting these 2001 TRD rims on a 2007 Tacoma? Pics from the ad also attached.

They won't fit!
Backspacing on the 01 wheels is not enough to clear the calipers. I'm not sure on the exact size, but I know the spacing just isn't enough. Backspacing on the 05+ is over 5.0, so if you want to run the 01 wheels, you will have to get wheel spacers.

 

Besides that every body sort of can tell those are 1st-gens on a newer truck...they'll kinda look out of place, don't you think? I'm trying to picture the look...actually it may not be bad? If you envision the front end corner and that rim it actually may look cool!

 

zmtnbik -- thanks much for the warning! That information was exactly what I've been unable to find researching this on my own. (Lots of info about fitment/compatibility with aftermarket wheels and tires, but nothing I could find about going stock 01 to stock 07.) I'll steer clear of these 01s and wait until a set of 05+ take-offs come around near me. Seems to happen often.

Ridgerunner -- I actually thought they were going to look pretty good. Here's a rough Photoshop I made by grabbing someone's 01 wheels from the photo gallery here on TW (the "after" version also represents the debadging I am planning to do asap)...

 

Pretty sure that is why the 2nd gen. trucks went to the 16" rims. Clearance for the calipers on the bigger rotors up front.

 

Helps if I read the whole post. I was just looking at the year's in question and assumed 15" rims.

But they would have to be 16" correct?
