Reason i keep on using the panel filters is filtration. Have heard so many horror stories about filtration of the Oiled Gaze filters. How does these new Dry filters compare filtration wise. Panel vs. Oiled vs, Dry media?

I'm just wondering what kinda hp gains you will see out of this motor when it's all said and done Mark.

It's better than having fenders with no liner in them like me.

    Thank you sir.

I don't go off roading anymore, sadly. I had a gen 1 TRD intake for a short while, before I went turbo. Still, never really used it in a seriously dusty area to see what would be the outcome.

I will say this, that there are different brand filters out there, with a vast range of filter medias. From paper, to gause, to foam, to stainless steel.

DO NOT BUY Vibrant Performance air filters. Those are literally see through. Panty hose over a skeleton frame would do better.

The AEM which is actually made by K&N and is a dry media (not sure if to their own specific requirements or just rebadged), and the Amsoil( made by Injen) have both worked very well for me, which is also a dry media. Never and sediment/dust in my intake tubes. And my truck has a lot of intake tubing for it to gather.

I have a recharge filter kit, and I cleaned a friends TRD Gen 1 filter. Probably hadn't been touched in about 60K miles. It was absolutley caked with everything you can imagine off of the various roads. His intake tube was surpringly clean. Almost shocking. Very sparse amounts of oil/dirt film layer in there. His truck has between 150-200K miles. '05 or '06 and supercharged from the time it was released.

What it comes down to, is knowledge about which systems and filters are known for the best reliability. Getting a properly packaged system. Not just a great filter with a crappy setup, or visa versa. Needs to be both.

I have also seen an over oiled, from the factory, K&N filter cause all sorts of issues with the 1GR MAF sensor on Toon's truck. After time had sucked that oil off, his truck no longer had MAF sensor issues. That was strange.

N/A, I am hoping that it is in the 300's+ to the wheels. Perfect world math calculations say it is possible. Let me reiterate, that the math is in perfect conditions. With my estimated 10% drivetrain loss, based off of what the stock BHP/BTQ, and what my OEM engine made in stock trim ( I can pull up that dyno if anyone wants to see it), we have calculated that it should be around ~360 whp and ~420 wtq. I will be ecstatic is the real world matches the lab formula. The math is sound, but there are still to many other variables which can throw that off pretty damn easily.

Even if it only makes 300 whp, the cool thing is that these engines respond very well to boost. Based off of similar builds (ones which don't have ridiculously advanced timing maps....), on a safe tune this engine should put out twice the whp at approximately 8 psi. Basically 8.7psi. Which means approximately 600 whp @ 8.7 psi, which is conservative boost. Very conservative.

The tuning and dynos will tell the story soon enough. So I am not holding my breath, as I do not want any false hopes.

I will likely be investing in repeated new wardrobes because of a similar reaction. Lol.

I clean my dry filters regularly as well. Probably around the same.

I'm thinking of buying the AFE stage 2 with the pro dry S.

Never had a problem with my TRD oiled filter though. I didn't have the truck for 500 miles before i installed it.

That is the plan Brady. That is what Robert and I have gone over many times, with all sorts of aspects of my build.

I have confidence in our math and understandings of the many aspects, but it is still best to retain skepticizm.

Rest assured, I am taking the proper steps to reach that goal. My tune will be safe, and for the worst case scenario. Not tuned for the perfect scenario. Cause that just doesn't exist realistically.

    It will treat you well.

I had that setup for quite a while - I sold it due to the fact I did not like my custom plumbing job to the snorkel.

No issues at all when I was running it tho. :D

Well it works so...can't bash that.

Didn't the AFE access the same whole in the inner fender? What custom routing would there have been?

The stock intake goes through the hole, the AFE smushes up against the inner fender over the hole.

How about the newer (2010+) trd intake? I'm pretty sure it goes "through" the inner fender just like the stock one.....right?

So sorry for thread jacking! I really am a newby
