UAW and the high cost of MFG in Cali were the reasons. IF GM can do it, why can't Toyota.

We all knew it, from someone inside the board of directors at Toyota USA.
Unfortunately we all like to listen our friends at our favorite wet hole.

And apparently they will now be built at the San Antonio, Texas Tundra plant.

    :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:

Toyota is obviously making a business decision here, and I believe it was a wise idea to let there relations with the UAW go.

So long as the domestic content of the trucks stays high I'm OK....But if they moved all Tacoma production to Mexico or Canada I would feel a bit miffed.

Ya' know all this ranting and raving about how great our health care system is and how the thought of a public option is pure unadulterated red socialism is starting to make me wonder when I read stuff like this:There are lower healthcare costs in Canada

It makes me wonder of the future of large scale manufacturing and factory jobs are simply going to die off in our country in favor of simply paying these profit driven Health Ins companies record profits as our health care costs dopuble, triple quadruple over the next 10-15 years.....

I dunno. I thought I was a slightly right of center moderate....I'm starting to feel a tug to the left!!

I was hoping they could work it ou tand not pull out of that plant, I still haven't gotten to go there and see anything get built yet. My friend saw them build vibe's and taco's there but that was a while ago...stupid GM. Why'd they have to go bankrupt? Now I'll never get to visit the plant! :(

From my understanding, the Fremont plant had long been a part of GM's empire. In the early eighties, though, there were import restrictions on the sale of Japanese built vehicles. To get around them, Toyota bought half the plant.

Therefore, to Toyota at least, this plant is both old and too GM influenced to be of large value. Too much Union and too much California government.

Been to Canada lately? It's about 90% the same as the US, with weaker coffee and no microbrew, but lots of open space and poutine. BC outside of Vancouver sports more pickups than Texas!

Yeah glad I got mine too...if they change the 2012 tacoma to the new look and its to be built at that Texas plant get ready for some 1st year production issues like always. Nothing against the Texas guys, but that's how it goes in Manufacturing with new products in new places.

True but it's cool to be able to buy a truck that's built at a plant so close to your own home. I mean it's about a 45min. drive from my house and people who buy trucks built there directly effect(affect?) my local economy. It's like a win-win for me and the people living around here.

I have nothing against our Canuck Brothers whatsoever....

I'm just biased towards having our folks employed instead of theirs!!

I do have a query tho'....What pray tell is Poutine?

A wonderful layering of fries, cheese curds and spicy brown gravy.

It's half the reason to go skiing there!

How do you figure? BC has a population of 4.5 Million. Take away 2 million living in the Vancouver metro area and you are left with 2.5 million.

    Texas has 24 million people.

I was using the approximate density of truck encounters on BC highways outside the lower mainland, with a little literary license.
