Bought tires at Costco for the 1st time; they come with lifetime tire rotations. I was told at the mounting that I have to get new lug nuts for my next tire service, that the OEM nuts were swollen and didn't fit the wrench. They fit just fine into my 21mm socket...so, are they crazy or am I missing something? Btw, I saw a similar comment about Costco posted a couple years ago. Anyone else?

You're suppose to use the hypoallergenic anti-seize. If not, swollen lugs is inevitable.

Tell the Costco tech to stop fondling them first. I'd talk to his/her supervisor about what they're trying to sell you. Usually Costco is pretty good about being honest.

Well, not sure how helpful this is, but points for entertainment... I thought I was handling them well and they felt pretty "average" in my hands.

Since you live so far away I doubt you parked close enough to my truck for it to impregnate your lugs.

Next time tell the mechanic to stop using a wrench and get the proper size socket.

I think that the chrome plated Lugs can get corrosion under the plating and they will sort of plump up as the corrosion gets worse....

Winnah. I had this happen on an old Cherokee. Moisture would get under the chrome plating, the steel lug nuts would rust underneath the plating, and sockets would no longer fit the lugs. We went through a couple sets of lug nuts before the old girl finally went to her rusty reward.

this happens a lot, after so many use of the impact gun and socket (21 mm) the outer casing will swell up though I don't know about rust. all Toyota lug nuts do this.

If your truck doesn't get its wheels off now and then, its subject to "blue lug".

If you gave your truck a blue pill and your tie rod ends are seized for more than 4 hours, consult a doctor.

In all seriousness though, after working at a service department for a number of years, I've never seen this. Not to say it cannot happen- look at the chrome bumpers and how they get limpy when rust pushes up under the chrome. Sounds legit, but I've just never seen it.

I'm always a little leary of the people that work at those places. Not all are bad I'm sure. I brought one of my trucks to Sams club one time for new tires and when I went to pick it up they told me they couldn't change them because the lug nuts were seized on and they didn't want to snap the bolts. I took my 4 way out and popped them loose no problem. They looked dumb founded and then went on that their guns were junk. I just left, don't need those guys working on my truck. You said your socket fit fine...must be the operator.

I will never know the issue. My wife removed my lug nuts a long time ago. Every once in awhile she reminds me of that fact.

I just put new lugs on my Matrix because of this problem! My 21 mm nuts could only be taken off with a 22mm socket. The chrome covers get bent by the impact gun. I changed them out so I would not be stuck with a flat and a factory lug wrench that did not fit the lugs.

Maybe if you come back on a cold day... Or just take the taco for a swim in a cold lake.
Either way, you'd have to get over there quickly before the shrinkage wears off
