What's a fair price for this 2005 Tacoma?

    Hey guys,

I'm looking at possibly picking up a second gen tacoma in addition to my 1995 first gen.

The dealer's price is through the roof compared to all pricing websites I've checked (edmunds, truecar, etc.).

The dealer is asking (sticker price) $20,000 even for:

    2005 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Xtracab V6 4WD with:
    125,000 Miles.
DEMELLO OFF-ROAD TACOMA THREE HOOP FRONT BUMPER 05-11 ~ $1,150
    A rear plate bumper ~ $400?
    10,500lb Winch ~ $No idea
Icon Front Coilovers (most likely standard travel)
    Possibly a Aftermarket UCA
Two PIAA Offroad lights in the front

Even with all the add-ons I still don't see how they go from the recommended sale price of $13,000 all the way up to their grossly overpriced $20,000. Maybe they're hoping some city yuppie gets their parents to buy it for them.

Bah it does look clean though.

Man it dosent appear to have 125K on it! Nice looking rig, has some nice add ons as well. Good luck OP hope you can get them down on price. I also agree even with add ons its way over priced.

    They start at about $800
There's a few dealers down south that do this. I'm surprised this thing doesn't have LED light bars all over it.

Do you have a link to the listing?

    nvm found it:
    here

This pic is a good one... selling a truck online with thousands of dollars added onto it, and there's a random drip mark on the 4WD switch. Here's your opp to talk them down!

Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
I gave $13,000 for my 05 3 1/2 years ago 142xxx miles. But the was private party quite a bit below value. This is 4x4, mine a dc trd or so ill say the differences are a wash. That is a really good looking set up, but i personally wouldnt give over $17k, but im really thrifty.

Things are worth what people are willing to pay. The dealer will probably get close to what he is asking. If you found the price should be around $13,000.00 offer them that and see what they say.

Personally, if I buy a used vehicle, I want it to be lightly used. Which means no mods done to it. My 1st thought of seeing a new front and rear bumper from a dealership are "was this vehicle in a collision?"

New bushwhacker fender flares and new ICON suspension = check for trail damage underneath, etc

Also remember that carfax will only show what has been reported to it. Meaning if there was an accident where the repairs were done out of pocket, then it could've been left off of carfax.

What I think is most entertaining, aftermarket parts and modifications don't generally add value to a vehicle. The nerve of this dealer, who likely stole this truck from the seller for $8-$10K because it was modified, and now trying to pocket $10K

You know what, now that I think of it those Icons had to been added prior to the dealer getting it. No dealer would add Icons to lift a truck. It would be a spacer lift.

I wouldn't buy it need on it being a 05 alone.

    1. Bad frame
    2. Bad engine mount welds.

Doesn't make a bit of difference how nice it looks if the foundation is weak. Its a problem waiting to happen.

I have heard about this as well... Is it really that big of an issue?

    I'm also looking at a '06 4WD with only 96,000 miles...

I would consider this vehicle if it were closer. Although pictures cannot tell the whole story, it does look clean, and has a clean CarFax report.

The major draw is being able to drive off the lot with the mods already done. Some buyers may not want to buy a stock vehicle and have to invest the time, labor, and money in modifying it. Here, the vehicle comes ready to go.

looks like paint damage on the rocker panel from wear getting in and out of the truck. That much done to it and no sliders, probably no skids either. better check out the underside of that thing for damage.

If the truck is from the south, then its probably not rusted up. Get underneath it and inspect.

As for engine mounts, there are gusset kits made to weld in that fix that problem.

If I had known about these problems, I'd have passed on the 05 we recently purchased, even though it's clean. Life is too short for potential bullshit problems like these.

Well I bought my 2007 for 20K used but that was 4.5 years ago in 2010. It is not 4WD but is double cab.

What you should do is play hardball with the book values you found and refuse to even come in and talk unless they get down to that range. I assure you the posters above are correct that the dealer paid way less than any published book value for it. And yes, they probably used the "mods" as negatives to negotiate the trade price down. Now they are just gambling that someone comes along willing to pay a premium for what they are now selling as "upgrades".
