If I'm understanding this correctly, you do NOT have to switch the ground side, you can switch the power side just fine. Also, just so you know, it is perfectly fine to switch the ground side. In fact, many other parts of the world, that is the norm.

If you're using an on-off-on switch, you can run the power fused from the battery and split it. One goes through the tail gate switch, then to the on-off-on switch, the other goes directly to the on-off-on switch. Power then travels to the LED lights and the lights get grounded. A basic on-off-on switch wiring diagram is typically drawn assuming there is one power supply and you're trying to power 2 things so power into one pole and 2 power outputs. You're just going to wire them in reverse, 2 power supplies into the switch and one power out. If you let me know which switch you're looking at, I can tell you which wire goes to which pin. Unfortunately, I'm not sure about them being weatherproof, better wait for the companies to get back to you about that bit.

Hopefully going to buy a pop up tomorrow. Anyone have any things they know to look for on a used pop-up? I know to check the canvas, screens, upholstery, plywood on the roof, check for rust, water damage, stuff like that. Anything that isn't obvious that is known to go wrong with them? The trailer is a 1999 Jayco pop up with the slide out. No more tenting with the baby!

I had one and they are pretty tough. I would check the frame, gas lines and plumbing. Also look at the axel and the cable lift system

I thought he did, I was hoping he'd have some advice to share.
Will do. The guy said he'd pull it out into his driveway so we could set it up, inspect it and take it down so I'd know it was all in working order. I'll be sure to check all those things, I'll get the stove top and sink working before I hand over the cash.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Most of the things are the things that you guys have mentioned. Roof (for leaks), Canvas (for rips/tears), screens (same). I would say the 2 biggest are the lift system and make sure the door operates correctly.
When I bought mine the faucet did not work but it was only $26 to buy a new one and very easy to replace myself.
Are you getting a good deal on it?

New parent syndrome, too. When my buddy and his wife first had their kid they took EVERYTHING with them, just in case, because they weren't sure what they'd need. They have a Yaris and that sucker was stuffed to the gills everywhere they went. After a couple of months they had it narrowed down to a pair of duffel bags. He turned 1 a couple of weeks ago, and they're down to one of those large LL Bean totes now.

If you did that you'd have to dump all 8 out underneath the rear bumper, drainpipe style like on an old Cutlass 442.
    Or like this. That's classy.

Nice day today, too. And back into the windowless fallout warehouse I go.

I think it's a decent deal. It's just a craigslist find. I'm going to look at it tonight and will check it over pretty well. I checked NADA and it's priced right in line with those prices. It seems to be in good shape for it's age (it's a 1999). I'm just looking for something inexpensive to start with to see how Kendra and Joseph like it. I love camping, just want to see if the rest of the family is really on board. Buying the pop-up was actually Kendra's idea so I think it'll work out just fine.
Nah, if I'm going to keep it classy, I'll do the side exit like the old Cobras. That's look awesome on a pickup and original because no one else takes sport car or muscle car attributes and tries to throw them on everything and anything

Alas, Kendra already told me I can't mess with the exhaust. I wanted to throw a side exit Gibson like I had on my old Chevy on this truck but I got shut down. In fairness to her though, the old exhaust resonated in the rear of the cab so I can't imagine it'd be great for Joseph anyways but I'll keep bringing it up and let her think she's won that battle and use that as leverage later on :D

Have you got side steps on that Ferd? Just sneak the exhaust into the side steps and she'll be none the wiser! Stealth Side Pipes!
Of course, she might notice when she goes to step out of the cab and her shoe melts to the step...

Or use it as a poker chip when you want something else.."well honey since I didn't replace the exhaust, I was going to do this instead".

Yeah, I have the factory black side steps, or old man running boards as I like to call them. I want to get rid of them for the nerf bars but for now they're functional so they're staying. I most likely won't touch the exhaust on this truck. When you step on it, it sounds really nice anyways but is quiet when just holding a speed.

That is how they designed it Mike. Ford is all about engine noise. On some of the cars they even have a vent that is connected to the intake so when you give it lots of gas your engine sounds louder

A lot of companies are doing that now. The Lexus LFA has flappy panels in the firewall that open and close depending on engine speed. The higher you rev, the more they open, so that you can really hear the engine begging for mercy at before you shift it at 9k rpm.

Another option, Mike, would be to take the Ferd offroading and 'accidentally' rip the muffler off/crush it on a rock. Then say "well, honey, since we're replacing the exhaust anyway..."

This started on the Mustang with the 5.0 Coyote Engine. A tube connects the intake to a point in the passenger compartment bringing engine sound into the car.

Much better than new BMW M3 and M4. They actually use a synthesized engine noise "soundtrack" that is played through the car's speakers to enhance the sounds of the engine. Very artificial and a cop-out on the part of the engine designers. Sure, emissions controls put a damper on the quality sound of a high performance engine, but come on! The BMW inline 6 has been traditionally one of the smoothest and nicest sounding engines in the world for decades.

That's the thing though, I don't actually want a new exhaust. I'm fine with the noise it makes now, I'm just letting the wife think she's won some battle and will use that later on. Say when I want to do a retrofit or put LEDs in the headlights :D
Interesting. I'll have to see if they did that with the F150. As far as I know, it's the same 5.0L coyote engine from the Mustang, just retuned.
