going from 245 to 265

how much power and mpg can i expect to lose going from 245 /75/16 to 265/75/16 tires? i have the 2.7 4x4 if that makes a difference . thanks

cool , thanks. just wanted to fill up the wheel well a little bit more w/ out lifting. can you suggest a reasonably priced at tire. i dont do much off roading, but weather here in pittsburgh can get shitty. prob 80% blacktop driving 20% gravel/dirt.

 

Is that the largest size tire you can go to without doing a lift?

Will you need to cut any of the wheel well?

I lost 3 MPG going from 245 to 265 in my 2007 PreRunner 2.7L (sold that truck).

 

265s are wider than 245s (first number is width). The second number is how tall a tire is.
265/75/16s would fill your wheel well more.

 

really !! three mpg 007 ? think i will stick with the 245s. i love the look of the bigger tire but, if your losing 3 mpgg your prob losing some hp/torque also. cant afford to lose any power in the 4banger. love the efficiency of the 4 and the mt allows for a little get up when you really need it, but it is a thin line. thanks.

 

Go with a 265/70R16. The tire is the same height but wider. Going taller would be a big mistake since the gearing is already too tall on these trucks. I’m thinking of going with a 255/65R16 next time to shorten up the gearing and make 5th more useful.

 

do you think the mpg loss is attributed more to the widening of the tire or the heightening of it? or do they contribute equally. can i get a higher tire without the width. cant recall ever seeing something like 245/85/16. prob wouldn't be stable enough. my priorities are 1. safety 2. efficiency 3. performance 4. aesthetics

Here is a useful website where you can play around with different tires sizes for comparison to your stock tire. It gives the speedometer error also when straying from stock. Personally I like a wider tire vs. a taller tire from the aesthetic point of view. If you go wider just make sure the rim can handle it.

i when from 245/65/16 to 265/75/16 and didnt really nocticed any milegae drop or no power loss. it still feels the same for me except that its a litttle wider tire which is aewsome

 

The stock tire size is 245/75R16 (the Dunflaps) or 265/70R16 (the Rugged Fails). I think the I4 has acceptable power but I wouldn’t want to do anything that would compromise what power there is. So there’s no way I’d go with a taller tire. But a slightly wider tire would not make a difference. A shorter tire like a 255/65R16 would actually make the truck a little quicker.

 

well i dont really need the speed cause my truck is a 4cyl 4x4 so its got alot of weight and a little slow. im not to picky and my ride is a little higher do to the 265/75/16, but if i do go for some speed ill might consider the 255/65/16. thanks..

 

i'm running 265/75's in my 4cyl, cant notice much of a performance difference but according to the scangauge i've lost almost 3mpg average... kinda shitty, but they do look a lot better.

i'm running hercules terra trac a/t's they were $155CDN a piece.
