According to Toyota.com mileage for the 4x4 double cab/extra cab in v6 or 4 cylinder is virtually the same (17/21 & 18/21). What are you owners experiencing?

Wait a minute, I thought the Double Cab 4-Cyl was only available as a PreRunner (That's what I have actually) checking the 4x4 option changes you to a V6 unless I'm missing something.

As someone who owns a Double Cab PreRunner, 2.7L, I don't think I would want to know how much an extra 400 lbs or so affects the truck. It's pretty weak in just PreRunner trim with the 2.7.

I also have a 2010, V6, Double Cab, SR5, PreRunner. I know Op wants stats on 4x4's, but just to compare 4x4 to PreRunner in the same configurations, my 2.7 gets about 1 mpg better in town. That said if you stay at a painful 65-68 mph on a board flat highway, and stay out of the gas, the 2.7 Double Cab will get 25.

*Edit* I just tried to build a 4x4, 2.7 Double Cab, and it only allows it to be a PreRunner in that configuration. 4.0L is the only option.

I have an access cab 4x4 4cyl with the 5spd. In the summer I will average 24.5 mpg on rural roads and towns running max 65 mph without trying. On the interstate between 70-75 mph I will average 22 mpg. Put on ten ply a/t snow tires in the winter and the mileage drops to 20 to 21 for the rural roads and 19 to 20 for the interstates. I did get a couple of tanks in the 22-23 mpg range but I had to really work at it.

I bought an ultragauge this january and my mileage improved a little. I recently got a best tank of 26.3 mpg and that had about 70 miles of interstate driving on it. Went 455 miles before the lo fuel light came on. This was easier to do than the 22-23 mpg this winter.

California gasoline is closer to 15 city/ 18 hwy for my V-6 4WD DC AUTO. Never got better than 19.5 mpg and that was using Mexican gasoline (no ethanol).

I average 17-18 in the city with my V6 DC and if I set the cruise at 70 I'll get about 21 on the highway.

Yep. I'm with you there. I get 13/14. Basically, same as you but where I live there are probably more hills.

For example, driving from San Marcos out to Ocotillo Wells last Saturday (90 miles) was over a mountain, yet I arrived there having only used 5 gallons (18 mpg)... lots of curves and climbing, with two adult passengers.

But, just driving to customers homes in North County (residential streets) the truck drops to 14 mpg... no passengers and not much cargo weight in the bed.
