Where we stayed last week was not very far from there, maybe 30 miles or so. That was a big ass moose! I had one run out of the woods and then pace the 4Runner about 5 years back, really scared us. When I was about 20, I was hiking in Northern Maine and got close to a big fella, too close, maybe 10 feet. Didn't see him through the trees until I was right there. They are really impressive up close, bigger than I thought! He just looked at me and kept munching on whatever it was he was eating.

The job I'm interviewing for is in the mixing department in a laminating plant. They make quite a few products, but their biggest business right now is fabric used for military clothing. It's only about 15 miles from home, probably the closest I have ever commuted. I'm kind of conflicted, I really like not working, and I'm not having any trouble keeping myself busy, but the sensible thing to do is keep plugging away and saving.

    now I'm sad.... :pout:

They are pretty cool up close. One of the ones that I was watching in WY sneezed (at least I think it was a sneeze, maybe something flew up his nose :notsure: ) and scared himself  He sort of gave me a look like "why'd you do that?"
Elk are neat to watch too.

You need to find something part time or seasonal - that would allow you to still have a little income and the free time to do whatever. Best of both worlds.

:woot: for seeing moose's up close and not getting trampled ;) All the time I lived in Alaska, never got to see them up close. Closest was probably 40 or 50 feet away.

If you like the job, go for it...

Me too. hate to see them killed like that :(

You need to set up a camera and record some videos for us

    Hi Susan.

How long did you live up here? I've been within 10 ft several times. Usually when i stepped out of a building on base and there they were. Few times I've walked out of my garage and had one or two in the front yard within 10 or 20 feet. Ran up on them on ATV trails too.

Dave, you'll know what's right for you. Good luck.

video camera is priority # 1. You can get still pics from video's!!!

    :woot: any good?

I lived in Fairbanks for three years. Lived on base for the whole time. One of those years in the dorms. Was never near the wooded areas, always in the middle of buildings. Saw plenty on base during hunting season, but rarely the rest of the year. Usually saw them while driving down the road.

I had a few close run ins that way too. Was closing up after work one night and I locked the door on the building then turned to walk to my car...had a moose standing 1/2 way between me and the car! I was sorta stuck because the door was locked and the alarm was set. I had no where to go. Thankfully she decided to just walk away. I made sure to check the parking lot for mooses before locking up after that night!

Yes and no. My camera can do video as well but the quality of the still pictures that it takes while taking video is way less.
