Yeah the 52.5 was originally meant for the old ifs trucks. 94 and older. Different frame kicks would change it

I agree!! I remember you guys passing us in MDR in 2006. I was in a linked truck then and Helton would smoke all the linked guys in a leafspringer. It was wild!!
My current leaf springer handles business down Barstow main. My rear end works really really good. So that 52.5 is a reference starting point. That makes sense. Because every truck is different when it comes down to it.
When I built my class 2000 truck, I just cycled it with the main leaf only. Me and Sick Nick used nothing except geometry (of course checked pinion angle, driveshaft plunge etc....) Tried different shackles sizes and came up with a really good combination.

Few shots of the old truck from November 06. We missed fastest lap in 1450 by less then a minute.

If I remember correctly the 52.5 originally came from Dan Vance's old pickup Tortuga

Like one tire flat at bed level? If your going bigger than 33" it most likely wont clear the shackles.

My issue was that with the 33" butted right up against the gusseting on my rear bumper my axle would make contact with the tire with all the extra uptravel. If I was still SOA It would have been fine though.

originally it was different... dual spares angled towards the bedsides (the black truck)

that truck has been quite the whore since it's original owner

im only running 33x12.5...but it looks like it might interfere with the shackle? im going to switch to 12" before i do it, but i figures since the bed is cut up in the back from the fuel cell that i might as well put a spare in there.

i dig that red truck...but dont want to have to re-do the whole rear bumper

I'm doing mine like the black truck. Didn't want to redo the bumper or the gusseting work to the frame. The tire will sit down 6.5" below the bed surface, but still exposed like that one. That way I can stack a 2nd without it being in my direct view.

the down side to having a tire that sunk into the bed is ground clearance. seems a bit low on the mullen truck. id be worried about puncturing it in a big dip or hard hit.
