Bed rails attachments.

When I mounted my cans there, they shook a lot and I was afraid that they would brake off.

 

That's why I used the rubber hose washers for some cushion. They have been fine there for almost a year and a half.

 

Mine are up in the front corners and anchored by two bolts on the side and then one up front and are rock solid.

 

I actually tried these and they are just a bit to short when it comes to the flat part.

Socalduckslayer had some stuff laying around that he sent to me. I had to make it work but it works great now.

 

Just curious what DuckSlayer sent you... can you post some pics?

Ordered some tapped through fastenal t-slot nuts today from a local dealer.

I made some hardware out of 5/8 inch lag bolts. I just cut a bit of material off the bolt head and they worked great!

HA! Thanks! I have to say, they fit really well. The only issue is the bolt is a bit large for mounting smaller things.

 

What if you used like a washer? And the only issue that would be is getting to the head of the bolt.

Basically I got a round handle with a threaded post on it and a T-Nut. The T-Nut was a different thread. So what I ended up doing is cutting off the rubber handle, then just forcing it into the wrong threads which locked it into place, cut it down to length and works perfect. If you look at his thread its the parts he uses to hold the bed racks in.

The idea LUSETACO would be easier and cheaper. But MAD PROPS to DuckSlayer for helping me out.

You mentioned that the bolt is to big for certain methods. And I was thinking like use a washer and cut it to fit the rail and just thought tab weld it so. The head of the bolt won't spin.

 

I was just saying the actual diameter of the bolt is a bit large, but I see what mean.

Fr the unistrut nuts, they are easily found at electrical supply houses, such as Stoneway, Graybar, Platt, Northcoast, and should also be available from Tacoma Screw. You should also be able to find them at the big chains, such as Home Depot or Lowes. At the electrical parts houses, they do sell to anybody off the street, you do not need a company account to get there. Ask for strut nuts, because unistrut is a brand, as is powerstrut, but different shops carry different brands but they are all the same.

Strut nuts come available threaded for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch. Square washers could also be useful to go between whatever you are mounting and the bed rail. These are 1-5/8" square, 1/4" thick, and the center hole is typically 1/2", but you can get them as 3/8" as well, also available at electrical supply houses.
