Icom 5100a. dual band with dstar gps and other stuff. Pretty sweet radio.

Yea dual band and self repeater..freaking super nice.

I will say my dad helped me with that purchase..but for good reason. I am trying to get my wheeling friends to convert to HAM(cough Ben mike Marc gage josh cough) and suggested it to my dad.

So he said sure! Before I knew it he was full blow into it! Haha here I was..on ill just get a 50w single band 200 buck radio...dad goes..

So he is going apeshit with it and it has been super fun with the stuff we have done. So he chipped in since he wants a playmate and wants to go so far down the rabbit hole.

We are going to the mountain this weekend to help run a 100 mile horse race and relay info via ham at check points. Good thing we have the 5100s since it can act as a repeater and they think they will need both of use to do that haha


Should be fun! It's a cool little side hobby.

What are the range limits on HAM's? My cousin in Va and his family in Tx are looking at getting their licenses and some radios.
