At your age, if you go down that road, force them to look into a resurface. It will be better for you in the long run as you get to keep more of "you". Had a resurface done about 5 years ago, much better then dealing with it going bad. FYI, I was up then next day, but Dr only wanted me walking with crutches for 2 weeks. That lasted a couple days with me.

CBI does a great job from an engineering standpoint, beefing up where needed, and shedding weight where possible. a properly set up fairlead mount really doesn't need to be very strong, when proper winching methods are used. for "strong where it counts", look at the 1/2'' vertical pieces on either side of the winch plate. not many bumpers out there with 1/2'' inch anything other than the shackle mounts.
