I mentioned it somewhere in this thread. I'll do some diggin to help.

    Edit: Found it.

This is what you see with silicon washer
    9utyze9a_494084665f30d05c4b429aa584e726f5db1fdb16.jpg

    This is without silicon washer

This is what it looks like with washer, lock ring, and retainer

As you can see, it was not enough. It was very hard for me to get a grip on those knurled nut.

So I had to shave the back of the reflectors a bit like so, to get a better grip
    7y5a9a5e_86b8b5d7420caebc06fb636ff60af88b3213a7fe.jpg

I used the hex nut instead but you get the idea.

trying to figure this out before i order my retrofit kit. have a 98 tacoma and question is i have a brush guard and has those thin little bars in front of the lights to protect them. will having it on the truck cause a light output problem with the hids such as blocking some of the light or should it not effect. thank you

Ive only tried with the hex nut first since that seems slimmer then the one pictured below. But ill give it a shot. Ended up breaking the lock tabs off my bulbs attempting the install and ruining a brand new pair of unused bulbs. Wouldn't cover under warranty but hooked me up with a sweet deal on a new set. Kinda bummed but hopefully I cant get these installed soon.
This is perfect. I did in fact trim quite a bit off the back of the bowl already. I left just enough to still fit the horizontal alignment tab in the grooves but still doesn't fit. Ill have to grind down some more and ditch the alignment tabs. Doesnt matter much anyways since the dont really fit snug anyways you still have to compensate the horizontal alignment even with the tabs. So more grinding it is and a bunch of JB weld afterwards lol. Ill try to snap pics and make a write up for those attempting install of these. May be a week or 2 though

I had the same issue, but no need to do trimming. I stretched the silicon washer up the projector and it gave me plenty of room to put all the appropriate hardware on the back side of the reflector. Hope this gets to some of you in time so you don't start grinding away.

Finished my install. Went with the D2S 3.0, after a couple headaches and one extremely simple solution here is an output shot. I couldn't be any happier.ygabahyg_d449d1400862ec5ae3c274d507697815bb776288.jpg

I stretched out the silicon washer and slid it further up the projector to give me more clearance to put the locking washer and nut on the back side of the reflector
