    As in near heart attack??

Hit the alarm clock this am and clicked on the TV news out of habit and I am lying there half asleep and I hear something about a shooting then I hear my daughter's name as the victim. Complete with the approximate correct age and in a nearby town she has friends plus the arrested guy is from the same town we and she live. And they failed to mention the incident was several days ago.

Talk about a panicked 15 minutes until I could confirm (by reluctantly searching the Devil, facebook) it was another girl with last name pronounced exactly the same, one letter different. Our daughters were even former classmates of the victim, and thankfully she had been released same day.

The only thing that kept me from totally whigging was having seen her leave for her night shift job and she probably didn't have time to have been in the stated location.

I was in a hotel room in Baltimore, doing a road-work contract installing satellite dishes.

I woke up one morning, like subby, and had one eye half open pointed in the general direction of the TV with my morning coffee.

I saw Jim Cantore doing a report on how a certain area was flooding from torrential downpours (hurricane!), on fire from drought, AND out of budget to fund crews to fight either....all at once. Did I mention there was a hurricaine on its way?

Then they panned the camera around and one of the houses they showed was the one I was living in at the time. I had moved in the month before.

Now, that would be a pisser too. We had a co-worker visiting us from CA for a couple days worth of meetings when one of the LA area earthquakes hit. He got pretty tight spinctered until he could confirm his family was fine and house only minor damage. He told us he had been through so many he had gotten used to it, but this was far worse, being so far away from home and family.

Yup. There were some colorful phone calls being made right then I can tell you. The fire was halted a quarter mile from my place...you could see the blackened line down the street.

The house two down from mine in the OTHER direction had three inches of water in the living room from the swale flooding. I had water halfway up the front yard...blind luck my house was a couple inches higher than theirs.

I've seen people I know on the morning mug shots. Also was watching a murder mystery documentary and found out the victim was a former co worker and murder had happened almost 7 years earlier. Was very strange.

Other than that, I'm no longer surprised cause I dumped cable and no longer watch news.
