old FJ's had the same power plant and ALL of their documentation says to NOT run regular

Tacoma's are not in the same buyers market so to keep fuel costs down for the average joe they said you can run regular and get unrealistic MPG's

the like 05-06 manuals had a blurb about it in there. was removed in 07 i think. the discussion has been on here MANY times before. there was a pic of the early manual that showed it.

Mine makes more power on premium. I'll try to find the documentation for it in a bit.

i'm trying to find the documentation from when they announced the gen 2 taco's (keep running into pages in japanese that google can't translate)....i had the text copied in a word file from that part though:
"The 1GR-FE is the 4.0 L (3956 cc) version, designed for longitudinal mounting in RWD and 4WD pickup applications. It has a 94 mm bore and a stroke of 95 mm. Output is 236 hp (176 kW) at 5200 rpm with 266 lb·ft (361 N·m) of torque at 4000 rpm on 87 octane, and 239 hp (178 kW) at 5200 rpm with 278 lb·ft (377 N·m) at 3700 rpm on 91 octane. This engine features Toyota's VVT-i, variable valve timing system on the intake cam and a compression ratio of 10.0:1."

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    1GR- FE engine—
    Unleaded gasoline, Octane Rating 87
    (Research Octane Number91) or higher.
    For improved vehicle performance,
    use premium unleaded gasoline with
    an Octane Rating of 91
    (Research Octane
    Number 96) or higher

91 is premium in some locations...93 in others.

but like i stated, i think they dropped that from the manuals in 2007 b/c last time i was in this crap was when i had my 07 and it wasnt in my manual.
