All the flat rate talk takes me back to my days behind the wrench. Our shop was one of the rare ones that let the mechanics take as long as it took to do the job. It was an English car dealership (a hint at how long ago it was) and the factory reps used to come to our place to find out how stuff was done. They routinely used our shop to take notes and shot pics for service bulletins. Nice work if you can get it!

I do software now. I wonder what flat rate would look like in this environment?

Take it easy Charlie! I hardly know you and already I'm worried about you. ;)

Our son-in-law fell off the roof of his house yesterday. It sounds bad. Intensive care, broken vertebrae, split his face open, and more. He undergoes back surgery this morning. Strange thing is his roof is not that far from the ground. He must have slipped near the top and built up momentum. Wife is going down today (they live in suburban Baltimore area) to help around the house and manage the granddaughter so mom is free to be with her man in the hospital. We're thinking positive thoughts.

I'd guess there are a lot of dirty cooling fans. ;)

    Mornin' Ken.

Sorry to read about your SIL. for successful surgery and recovery. Sounds like it'll be a rough and long road with such severe injuries. :(

    Morning all:

Passing out in the back yard, stress and heat, in the hospital, sounds like it's time for the Capt. to slow down a bit! Kind of looks like some one is trying to tell you something.
Now get the heck out of there and start on a new project, but be sure to take your time on it! :D

Just noticed the post from wdb about the SIL. Unfortunate that things like that happen, and it sounds like he's banged up pretty good. You don't have to be up that high to sustain severe injuries from a fall.
Hopefully they will be able to patch him up, and that he can recuperate fully. Wishing all the best for him and the family.

THX for all the well wishes. Made it home without hitting anything or anything hitting me. ;)

Looked over my service records on the Bonneville and might need to get the transmission flushed. Last flush and fill was 30K ago so it may be time. The brakes are a bigger issue. I had to add brake fluid in St. John NB and that took care of the warning light. I flushed the brake system at 112K and it is at 127K now. There is also a lot of break chatter/vibration and the front rotors and pads were replaced at 112K as well. Was a lot easier to do the work when I had 3 vehicles. We only have 2 vehicles so time is a major issue for me.

Charlie, rest up and get to feeling better quickly.

Mike, how many amps is the 240V battery assembly putting out? Sounds like a welder on steroids. I routinely worked on -48V DC systems putting out 150 amps and safety was a huge concern. You can kill yourself pretty easily with a lot of amps and DC current. Muscle contractions are a pita.

Who would have thought that us old guys, and a young woman, :D , could talk for over 600 pages. Nice work on starting the thread Ken.

SIL is out of surgery, still intubated but gave the thumbs-up to his wife. My wife is there by now, picked up the little one from day camp.

Hey waitaminit, waitjustaminit. I'm a bachelor for the weekend...

It's been so long since I saw the specs. It has a boost converter for the mg1 and mg2 generators converting dc to ac voltage around 500 ac volts. There are inverters and dc to dc converters . Very tech stuff.

I just fix the dam things.

    Hehehehe

I doubt schematics would be found. Tech stuff is always hush hush.
