Is my tailgate correct for 2010 TRD Off Road?

I bought a 2010 TRD Off Road ealier this year and love it. I'm curious because every other Taco I see has "Toyota" and/or "Tacoma" and/or "Prerunner" on the tailgate where all mine has is a small black placard on the bottom right with the TRD logo on it. The rest of the tailgate is as smooth as a baby's behind with no lettering at all. Once I noticed it I got really curious and I look at every Taco I see and none of them are like mine. Is this some special option or what? Anyone else have one like this? Maybe it was replaced at some point? The previous owner says that's how it came from the factory but he could be making that up. I don't really care other than pure curiosity :)

Sounds like it was de-badged and then the PO out the TRD badge on.

    Sounds legit.

Probably debadged and then a different emblem sticker installed. I have never seen a truck with the TRD emblem on tailgate

That's the TWTRD package. You should also notice toyota factory weathertech floormats, toyota factory botched satoshi grill, toyota factory 3" hockey pucks level kit, and oh yeah, the factory monster stickers on the rear window that add 10 HP.

I think the Bajas come with the "TRD" emblem where the "V6" emblem usually is.

My baja has TRD but in red. I think the red bajas have the TRD in black.

I do have all of those items Taco Dan mentioned except the stickers on the windows. The little black placard is probably 1.5 inches by 4 inches in size with "TRD" and "Toyota Racing Development" in red lettering. The Taco is a silver double cab and has the TRD Off Road graphics on the bed sides. The Satoshi grill looks like crap, too, with the paint coming off of it in places.

Sounds like your tailgate looks kinda like this?

If so, it was debadged and the TRD badge was added. That's what I did to mine shown above. You can see the before and after pics on my build page.

Similar, but not exactly. The badge on mine looks similar to some fabric patches for clothing that I've seen on the web. I'll try to post a picture of it when I have some time tomorrow.

No offense, but does it matter if the tailgate is correct?

If it follows the lines of the truck, has a latch for opening and keeps your shit in the back when it's closed, what more do you need?

Nah, it doesn't matter at all as far as the truck goes. Just wondered whether it was stock or customized. It looks nice it just struck me that I never see any others like it :) Here's a picture of it.

^^ Aftermarket badge. Looks like the original owner just took the stock ones off and put that one on.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
TRD bedside decal looks lopsided. do you have the outlet in the bed and the RR diff lock button to the left of the steering wheel?

Yes it has the power converter in the bed and the RR diff. I checked the VIN with Toyota and their response was "Tacoma TRD Off Road Pre-Runner". It has the factory towing package (which is mainly why I bought it) which I confirmed with Toyota. Didn't mention the SR5 and I'm not totally sure the difference since this is my first Taco

The original owner doesn't confess to changing anything but the grill and adding the spacers but he is a "friend of a friend of a friend" if you know what I mean. Don't think I can trust his answer based on what I've learned here. He gave me the original grill along with the Satoshi that was installed. I put the original back on :)

I agree the decal looks a little lopsided on the passenger side but there's no record of damage or signs of repair and while I was shopping for bargains on dealer lots last year I noticed a new 2013 that had decals that were a little off so I figured it came that way.
