We just re-upped our lease before Erica had the job. Now, we are both regretting it. She drives 5 miles further than I do, but it takes her 20 extra minutes. Gotta love Seattle traffic! Too bad everything else is expensive further up north.

Location is key. I'd love to sell this turd of a house and move south into a farmland based community near my work. So tired of the burb traffic and living in a development. I never grew up in one so no idea why I bought a house in one ten years ago

My Friday commute home from Philly in summer for almost 17 years used to be 1-2hrs. I live 10 min off the Atlantic City expressway and it's the main shore route for Philly and it's surrounding burbs.

My commute to work in KS was 15 minutes, and I lived 11 miles away. That was all down city streets at 45mph (well, limit was...)

25 miles takes me 35+ minutes depending on the day. Erica it takes over an hour for the extra 5. Our place is running us 1400 a month. To find a comparable place 10 miles closer, we are looking at 1550 a month. 15 miles closer, 1700 a month. Inside Seattle, over 2k. But I guess if you look at the money we save from driving 1/4 the distance... it wouldn't be nearly as much.

But then we need to find daycare closer to work. Right now it's 940 or so a month where he is. If we come closer, it goes to over 1300 a month. Right next to Erica's work, its over 30k a year for a few places.

Luckily my work is in a "Green" town in SNJ. It's literally green with farmlands and figuratively green with solar fields all over. My company moved there because the town financially promotes clean industry and that aligns with our company's core beliefs and of course $$$.

Our company is net zero and currently trying to obtain a ton of ISO certs.

I know that they were crappy. I think the original glass was just bad - maybe the low e coating was bad or something. The ones that got replaced 4 years ago were most likely built locally by a glass place and the ones that were put in yesterday were maybe built to order at a larger facility and therefore more professionally done.

Sounds good Dave; do you think you're gonna like it?
I have a 42 mile commute and it takes 45 mins in Summer and 45 to 60 in Winter. Only issue is there is no alternate route; if a wreck happens on the Glen, one is stuck behind it.

Glad the new ones look better.

I have about 3 extra packs of blades in my garage, bought when they were 50% off. Too bad you're 3000+ miles away.

It's still hard to say. The plant was on shutdown, so they didn't give me a tour, just talked about my work history and education/experience. The job would be running the mixing department. The company has several contracts, but right now the main focus is on fabric used for military clothing. They laminate layers of fabric with different types of materials, some for fire retardation, some for breathability, etc. The mixing department makes the glues used in the process. Most of my work experience is in automotive lubricant manufacturing, so there seems to be a lot of crossover. Use a formula to make a product, test it for proper specs, release it for use in the plant. They want me to see the process next week after the plant re-starts. Usually, when I interview, they say they still have other folks to talk with and they will get back to me. This place seemed interested. We'll see, I'm a bit on the fence here, I "should" go back to work, but I don't really "need" to. I'm sure I'll thank myself for going back a few years down the road, especially since I've never left North America and really want to see Europe, maybe multiple times. Wow, long post huh? Not like me.:typing:

    Good luck Dave

ewwww I hate long commutes. Longest one was in The Netherlands was 14 miles. Getting stuck behind a group of school kids on bikes really sucked!!!! :(

Expense is a concern for day care, but you need to find a quality place for him and if it means paying a little more, it will be worth it in the long run.

    How're the new windows?

    :notsure: why you say that?

    evening everyone and TGIF!!!!

Probably helps to type it all out. Sounds like you're on the fence and need to work through it. I'm sure you'll figure out if it's right for you or not. Good luck ... Kind of nice to have the option to work or not I'd imagine.

My sister-in-law is probably moving to Germany soon, I'd have a free place to stay.
