I'm not familiar with the torment but I did have a 2wd slash and those things are fun. They are durable, easy to work on & cheap to upgrade. You can't go wrong with one for bashing it around. I like the traxxas velineon combo because its water resistant and it allows you to go thru puddles and mud.

Was the recipient of a very generous gift today. My old boss in Florida contacted me about a week ago asking for my current address. I just figured he needed it for something business related, or that he was going to send me some company logo shirts/hats like he does every once in a while. get home today from work, and there is a box at my door far too big to be holding t-shirts. cracked it open, and there's a damn Viterra Twin Hammers in it
There was note inside that said he barely used it, because his redcat rock crawler was plenty fast enough to chase his fat dog around the yard with  said that I would get much better use out of it.

He was this kind to everyone he came in contact with. makes me really miss working for him.
Definitely going to have to get him a nice gift of some sort.

Sooooooo, next order of business....... Eric, what do I need to upgrade on this thing??? :D

I have not yet installed the parts, but I have the GCM upright shock tower plate and mounts for the front, their rear axle truss as well as their roof mod that swaps out the fake plastic lights for a cage with LED mounts built-in.
Eventually I would like to upgrade the ESC. It would be nice to have better response for crawling. I make do with what's in it, but the potential for improvement is pretty obvious.

I really dig the TH as it suits the type of driving I enjoy. A mix of moderate speed and technical ground.

I have been insanely busy with life, so the mod's are sitting on my workbench waiting for me.

    Too many to list

Can I borrow your luck for a few days??? :D

As far as upgrades, I never did anything to mine as I was kinda not in the hobby as much when I started messing with it. But I was going to go brushless, swap the shift servo out, and get some new links from blue monkey. rest was going to be replace/upgrade as I broke it.

Best advice iv heard all day :D

I've seen a lot of folks with the upright shocks. what benefits are they supposed to provide? more travel? what shocks/springs do you swap to with that?

I didn't have a chance to run it yet, but I called up my old boss to say thank you. he told me the only thing wrong with it was a bad ESC. figured it was a good time to upgrade, so tonight's project is to install the new CC sidewinder.

Trying to find what parts of the running gear typically break the most. thinking that the rear driveshaft will be a common failure with a brushless.

From my understanding, the main benefit it that it helps improve the TH's crawling proficiency. By turning the shocks upright, a space is created in the front for the battery to be relocated forward(as opposed to high in the rear). With the battery in the front, the rig's new weight distribution helps it hold the trail better.

The mod requires different shocks. Axial 60-85mm shocks will give it it's full travel potential. It's the same shocks that are in Axial's scx-10's.

ah, gotcha. hadn't thought about relocating the battery. thought it was purely a suspensions modification. you get the locked diff for the front since it seems you're leaning towards the crawler side of things?

Haven't gotten to that yet. I will likely upgrade the ESC at some pt. I am not so impressed with the slow responsiveness of the stock stuff. That said i am still having a blast with the thing completely stock. Making modifications bring a different sort of joy into the game.
