Yea I have my techictian license.

Ham event was fun learned a lot about my radio and being a ham operator.

However. Kill frankenstein last night. On the road to get the trailer now. Pretty bad. But all fixable...I think

Okay, so went to the HAM event with my dad and it was a blast. Aside from it rained bad right before we left and it was SOOOOOO muddy. Horrible..Worst i have been in.

    Was still pretty though.

Then was driving out to go camp and all the sudden..boom pop bang!

[IMG]Frank-3.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Think the lower ball joint itself gave out. Tire got sucked under and ripped off the upper ball joint. broke the brake line and ripped apart the CV joint, then keep going and broke my Inner tie rod and split the steering rack in two right down the middle.

was on flat ground going 10mph.

Thankfully. My dad was right in front of me with the FRV.

we ended up looping my Winch cable up and over this spare tire carrier on the swing out. Sadly it did tweak and bend a bit. But he drug me down the road to a wide spot and we left it there. Head up within the next few hours to go get it on the trailer.

I have all the parts i need ironically to fix it other then the steering rack and i know where to get a couple OEM ones from junk yards. So...should be okay unless something else got super tweaked that we didn't see.

Holy dang! That is my worst fear.. Like you said lucky it happened on on dirt going slow.

Really glad I did my LBJs a few months ago, had 130k on them and there was tons of play! I get to paranoid with that stuff. When I got T-Boned had almost all the same parts damaged too, it gave me an excuse to upgrade.

Hope you get her fixed up and back on the road without too much work and no hidden issues. Happy you are safe and we can still get some more travel reports!

    Gnar.
How many miles were on those BJs? Also might wanna do a good inspection on the crossmember the steering rack bolts into. I assure you, it's possible to bend.

Yea me too man. Should be okay I think.

Yea it was not a fun feeling. Especially since it was twice in one year haha.

I'll get it moving again soon.

    122k

I am worried the crossmember may be tweaked. I know the bolts are bent and hell the rack split in two right down the middle.

If it's bent will I have to cut out the bent one and weld a new one in?

It's all going to depend (where it's bend and how much). I was able to get mine mostly back to where it was supposed to be and plated the hell out of it after.

Cut off the right side mount completely. Used a big ass ratchet strap (the one I use to keep the truck on the flatbed trailer) to pull the crossmember as far back as I could and then built a new passenger mount and plating and burned everything in.

Wah! Glad it happened going slow. Sucks man. I hope that crossmember is the lesser of possible jacked up.
