Got lucky and found a used set of Cooper Discoverer S/T tires. Getting them mounted as I post. Straight to the desert from here to see how they stuff.

so anyone know how many miles the Toyo M/T's should be getting? Looks like mine are already half worn down(comparing my 5th spare) with maybe 14k miles on them in 10 months. Most of my driving is highway with occasional trips off-road.

How are these on the road...? "hummy" looking for a quiet tire in this size. I ran the KM2's in 255/85 R16 LOVE the look but they just wouldn't balance. I'm on 285/75 R16 KO/TA but really want to go back to Tall & Skinny.

Use a tire shop that knows what they are doing and youll be fine.

My KM2's have barley any weights on them.

Spin the wheel in the tire if massive amounts of weights are needed. Tire kids these days are typically low man on the totem pole and not very wise.

I've noticed the same thing... 38.5x11s .... They look really skinny (would look more so if I had fenders) but they're a pretty good and meaty size in reality. The narrower tire has really been great offroad in both rocks and mud. For reference that Dakota next to me in the last picture has 43x14.5 TSL SXs and the rig on the right is 39.5x12.5 TSL IROKs

These aren't the best pictures, I'll try and get some better ones this weekend. No rubbing at all. They are loud and my 2FE hates the weight but they work well in dirt. Not bad for $340 used off CL.

What makes you say it rocks? You have a 4.0L? Auto or 6-speed. I'm curious about your experience with it on and off road

4.0L with the auto. I only run about 2700 rpm at 75 mph so it's not bad and it rock crawls great with the gears as well as having an extra torquey feel when I give it some throttle.

Where you are a 6 spd... well I don't think I recommend 4.88's and 33's. Maybe 4.88's and 37's. Mostly for a manual and rock crawling I recommend a crawlbox. If it's your driver and you are on 33's I don't know if I recommend a regear unless you don't see 75 mph often. Your RPM will be pretty high even with 4.56's and 33's at 75 mph.

I'm looking into 4.88's now. My truck is going to get bad MPG no matter what, might as well have my power back. I guess it's a little different for me since I already have 4.10's.

Regearing didn't exactly affect my mileage. Not the gearing itself anyway. I get the same mileage just setting the cruise on the freeway. I do get worse mileage around town but that has to do with the fact that the gears make taking off so much more fun that I use a lot more throttle than I used to... haha

When you re-geared to the 4.88's did your mileage stay the same or close to stock mileage?

I know that you get power back, but I always wondered if the mileage returned close to stock or better.

    Just curious...

I average about 16-17 setting my cruise for 75mph. Which I think is pretty good considering having plate bumpers and a lift to screw up the factory aerodynamics and being about 2000 lbs over stock from all my armor/mods. Like I said above I get about 12 around town but my weight is really going to affect my mileage from stops and I tend to have a heavy foot.

I averaged 5 mpg for an entire tank out at the dunes last week but I was WOT and at redline for the entire tank and doing some steep hill climbs.

Got some shots in the desert at a spot I like to test stuff at. No rub at all. I'm supper happy with this size. I put the pressure up to 40 PSI and it is riding really well on the highway and still works well in loose dirt. :yay:

Anyone running their 255s on the FJ TRD 6spoke wheels? I'm thinking about getting a set and I'm hoping it will get my tire farther from my UCA

What are your rpms at a true 70mph with stock 3.73 gears and auto? With 255/85/16 or 255/80/17...

I just put some 255/85R16 on my truck without a lift. I'm running Glassworks front fenders and an after market front bumper. I have the tires mounted on 16x8 method wheels with 4.5 BS. I haven't experienced any rubbing while driving around the City. These tries have a considerable amount of vibration compared to the stock Rugged Trail BFGs.

I wasn't able to find any information on running these tires on the stock TRD suspension, so I though I would share what I found.

    20140713_095415_zps8db9a7b4_5966b02fd4d2e5f40481423c397559481b7fa34b.jpg

With one tire turned on the curb the tire gets close the the pinch weld. I'm thinking about bending the pinch weld over.

    20140712_155841_zps06556304_7ce0696afb6eaed694cd526c6efff17d7606f5e5.jpg

When I was having the guys at 4 Wheel Parts put the tires on they refused to put my truck down off the lift and claimed that there would be major rubbing. I told them to put some weight on the tires and show me the rubbing, an hour went by and then they gave me my truck back. They were trying to sell me a cab mount chop for $300.
