Fishing there is on my bucket list. My dad and grandpa fished it way back when and pulled 74 nice walleye out in one weekend.

Looks lie I'm getting a lift soon than expected. I noticed one of the studs on the front strut had sheared off and is only being held in place with 2 studs. I going for the full OME lift with Dakars.

Obviously. Since the previous owner welded this stud, what else in the suspension is just waiting to break.

I'm looking at the full Wheelers OME kit. I still need to check but if necessary, I'll also be getting a carrier bearing drop, BPV relocate, front diff drop, front brake lines and new strut isolators.

Well crap, I have a dilemma now.

Truthfully, I'm not ready for a lift as its only 1/3 of the puzzle. A lift, while greatly improving the weak OEM suspension, still needs taller tires and gears to be truly effective. I've already planned 255/85R16 tires in the future but thats easily a year away. Also, once I get those tires I'll have to regear since I'm already undergeared running 30.5" tires.

Looking on Rock Auto, I can get new MOOG front strut assemblies for $100 each. That would keep me to my original plan of getting skids, bumpers and a winch before lifting and regearing. I'm talking to MOOG right now to get the spring rate and travel distance of their assemblies.

Edit: Screw it. I started ordering parts for a complete OME lift. I'll drive with my hill billy wheel well gap until I get around to ordering tires and gears.

Completely unrelated to trucks but my wife and I camped at George Manitou last night for the first time. We ended up picking site 15 (did I mention that we've never been there). The hike in was 3.5 miles, half of it was up and down ravines. I had a 40lbs pack, wife had a 20lbs pack, it rained friday night so everything was wet, it rained last night so everything was wet.

Took us about 2.5 hours each way, still managed to get a good fire going and had a good time. When we got to the trailhead today, we were wet and exhausted. Next time...shorter hike to campsite.

Hey all! I am a new member and i have been going Taco crazy these last couple weeks. I live in the armpit of Lake Minnetonka (big kudos if you know where im talking about, ha). It would be awesome to meet some local people who love tacos as much as i do.

So i bought this DCLB 4x4 off craigslist like 3 weeks ago that needed head gaskets. My best friend and I did that job in my garage, and now i got me a decent running truck. But thats only the beginning. Coming up (and currently in progress) are 20" 4runner wheels with BF TA KO's, and a full custom sound system consisting of a Pioneer nav with backup cam, component speakers and jamming the biggest sub i can fit with a ported (and tuned) sub behind the rear seat because im an audiophile. Ill most likely be building that box myself as i cannot find many ported boxes premade.

I also have a ton of parts for sale (engine parts, nice topper, headlights, grille etc.) so if anyone needs things let me know! Or just say hi, Its awesome to have access to such a huge forum. Later yall.

Driven by George Manitou more times than I count on the backside, along Cramer Road. A lot of maples from there down to the North Shore but I normally look for and spend my time in aspen. To the North along Cramer if you keep going there is the Trestle Inn where you can take a shower for a small fee, food is decent. Stayed at Crooked Lake campground several times but prefer to pitch the tent in the middle of the woods. I am in Lake and Cook counties most of the fall until deer season then stay out when the if it is brown it is down crowd shows up. Past Crooked Lake it is 12 miles to the BWCA and lots of trails off to either side including primitive camp sites along several lakes. I grouse hunt there and walk 8-12 miles with the dog and sometimes the girlfriend, she likes the showers and electricity when it is available. As I get older can't say I disagree with her.

To the South if you go back through Finland (Our Place isn't bad place for food) catch Heffelinger Road in front of Our Place. Take Heffelinger Road to the intersection of Cloquet Lake Road and come back down to Beaver River Road, it is listed as a road but is nothing more than a 2track like many roads there. Let my gf drive it a couple of years ago and she put natures pinstriping all over my Xterra but it was a good learning experience for her. Lots of trails and hiking trails through out the area including Moosewalk trail and others. Glad you both had a good time, I look forward to spending the fall there each year.

 You have got one badass rig my man  I spotted that sweet Tacoma from a mile away. Didn't know who it was, but could only assume they knew their way around TW. Was on my way up to Leech Lake for vacation which is where I am now.

Haha thanks! I figured that was you. Your truck is sweet too. I was heading to the cities after spending 10 days on the Whitefish Chain. The weather is great up there right now.

I went and checked out the Spider Lake off road area while I was up there. I don't recommend it. It was far too boring. It could be done in a stock prerunner. I only needed 4wd once on a sandy hill, but you can probably make it in 2wd if you were prepared for it. The trails were so smooth that I ran a majority at 30-40mph. I covered the 10 or so miles of jeep trails pretty quickly and was disappointed at the end. My buddy used to atv there and said he would see jeeps winching and stuff, but I couldn't find anything that was remotely challenging. Not sure what the deal was.
