The wife finds an old wooden beam, says, "wouldn't that look nice on the wall in the bedroom downstairs."
I say, "that's a stone and mortar wall, putting that board in will be a messy job, we should pull the carpet up before we start."
She: "If we pull that ratty old carpet up we are NOT putting it back down, we are getting a new carpet".
Me: "I'm not investing money in carpeting down there unless we do something about the humidity."
She: "If we are going to do that we should put permanent heat in there too instead of the electric heater."
Me: "That means extending the ductwork into those rooms."
She: "How do we do that?"
You see where this is going, right? 8 months, 4 rooms worth of walls ripped open, several thousand dollars, and several thousand hours' labor later, the beam is on the wall.

    True story. :)

I doubt if we ever will learn as long as wars as controlled by politicians.

That is why I use Sherwin Williams paints. The paint can always be duplicated and the store will have the record of what I bought 5 years later. There paints are almost always 25% to 40% off when on sale which they always are. ;)

    Lol true.

    The beam:

    The carpeting:

One small part of the ductwork, hopefully showing that it was not exactly a straightforward task:

I can't show you the tree we had to cut down because, well, it's not there anymore.

Quick update on the SIL. HUGE thanks to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and good wishes.

He's doing better, much better today. Sitting up, eating solid food, his wife even trusts him to handle a cellphone without adult supervision. Recovery will still be a long, long affair, but I think we'll get darn near all of him back. Funny thing, he's thinking about telling them to leave his nose alone. Badge of honor? But his breathing is messed up so it may not be in the cards.

My wife is coming home tomorrow, bachelor days are over. :(:p

that is good news, sitting up and eating a major first set of steps. now he needs to do as this gang tells me, something hard to do, take it easy.
the nose issue, take care of that also, down the line he might possibly look at it like I am, should have had that nose fixed. would have been easier on the body if I had done it when I broke it 30 years ago with a simple slip of a breaker bar working on a car up on a lift. just now I can feel the restriction big time.

    :pccoffee: :pccoffee: 'Mornin folks.

That may be the toughest part of all for SIL. He's not much one for sitting still.

me to ken!! don't want to but I have to get off this thing and go to work. got another doctor's muscle car repair to do . 62 chevy impala need to pull the auto trans and fix it. don't know what will be found, it is one of those done in china crate rebuilds off the internet of a 700r4 behind a 454. no lockup and slips. think they stuck a non lockup convertor in it and screwed up the valve body big time.

get over and get it out before the heat builds up then take the unit into the a/c'd side of the shop in the rebuild clean area.

take care have a good guy folks

 Good Morning all. Wide awake at 3AM again. Night shift worker sleep pattern ... Oh well, it's my 2 day break anyway.

wdb, So glad to read the good news about your son-in-law. I'd try to get him to take Charlie's advice on the nose. As all of us here know, he'll heal a lot faster now than if he waits and it becomes an issue for him later when he's older.
And I love the natural wood exposed beams and trim in your pics, that's a great look.

Charlie, Glad you escaped from the hospital. I guess slowing down has a different definition for you ;) ... But at least you have a strategy for staying out of the heat as much as possible. Please do me a favor and take your time and stay hydrated.
And on the Made in China bit  it's a shame the places their cheap @ss crap made stuff shows up. :(

Randy and I drove down to Anchorage yesterday and picked up a set of 4 take off Ranger rims and tires (2 fronts & 2 rears) he found on craigslist. We'll use them as spares on the 6x6s during hunting season; cutting a tire down 30+ miles in from the road could be a headache, these should abate some of that worry.

Going to do some routing on the new 6x6 skid plate today to counter-sink the mounting bolts and washers when we install it.

Have a great day all. :)
