    So yesterday, before we hung things up for some brewskis, we also re-measured the engine to clutch and transmission to clutch, so that we could properly gap the new Tilton TOB.

    One interesting issue we came across some time ago, was that the crank shaft had A LOT of front to rear travel. A LOT. Which basically means that the thrust washers are extremely worn down.So much so, that the flywheel was actually eating away at the back of the engine. If you look closely underneath the rear main seal, a shiny smile is visible. :)

    The only thing that I can think of which caused that, is when I was racing, before I found out that my fuel pressure was too rich. It was so rich in fact, that the oil no longer felt like oil. Rather a gasoline mixture without any oil film lubricity. I even had an loss of power that day. A massive loss of power, likely caused by a loss of compression. I would say, that there is about a little more than an 1/8" of front to rear travel. Surprising that the engine still ran so well, and had two other races under its belt, as well as countless miles of city driving in between. After the fuel pressure was corrected of course.

    Quality 10w-40 Redline Oil and their Engine Break-in oil ZDDP additive is what prevented catastrophic failure.

    Redline additive FTW :cool: Been running it ever since we talked about it a while back. At least once a day I run a ~5k+ 2nd gear rip on my 25 mile country road commute to work :burnrubber: It's so hard not to comming out of a 30 mph zone up to 65! the 4.0 sounds so good from 3600 thru 5k :D

    That is correct. It is no longer 4wd. I have a plan to make it AWD in the future, but engine precedence first. The information about how I will be making it AWD is listed in the earlier pages though. :thumbsup:

    Redline FTW! :mudding: Because there is a racecar driver in each one of us. :cool: And yes. It does sound the best there.

    Ha. Never even thought about that Colin. What can I say...I am a quality materials whore. Lol.

    By the way fellas, the cams did make a difference. It idle tone. Very hard to tell in the first start-up video. As the echo of the garage, compiled with the ecu relearning itself, made for less than optimal video sound quality. Once we double checked the fluids, top off what was needed, and did the step rpm break-in, the idle was perfect.

    An subtle fierce cam melody rumbled gently. With patient impetuousness to force feed itself copious amounts of air, its tamed power made grand smiles out of us all. Lucario Runner Quote, "This engine is going to make a lot of LS fan-boys upset." ;) Regardeless of your platform choice, this engine foreshadows a true beast, in its own right.
