Why? Just put one end over the tailgate... I never put anything through the rear window.... Hit brakes too hard without it strapped down real well and it could go through the windshield.

 

I agree...that was poor loading by ClemsonTacoma . Could easily hang that over the tailgate.

If it's 10' or shorter, I lay it in the bed with the gate down. I just tie it up real well so it won't slide out. I sometimes haul 12' like this but it depends on the product (bends a lot).

But when I haul 16' of anything, I have to put them through the rear window. There is no other way.

Also, in my state, you have to put a red flag/marking on anything sticking over the tailgate.

 

I think I do to but never have.

 

I haven't hauled anything 16" long, but some 8 and 10" things. I usually leave the gate up to keep things from sagging or being at eye-level to drivers behind me. Also means when I strap it down tight it's very unlikely to slide one way or another.

 

Gotcha. My dad got a ticket one time because he didn't put one on. Therefore, I always put one on.

 

same here.... Which is why I leave the gate up.... At the very least some idiot won't get too close and poke out an eye.

 

I always put stuff through the window never thought about it going through the front window... might have to invest in one of those helper frames that go in the hitch...
