Saving should be a priority. I spent way more than I should have on my truck and now I am paying for it all. I have solid job security so that helps, but if something were to happen I would be screwed... because of a truck. Once I get all this crap payed off. I am going to be dumping money into my savings for a while. It is time to start thinking about the future more and budgeting when I want to modify something. I am 24 and don't want to live with my parents forever. lol

I don't have a problem spending when i have steady work, ample repair money (if needed), and a valid use for what ever i'm buying. The only thing i have bought so far that i didn't justify was hood struts. And i still haven't put them on

Y U HATIN? I have plenty of little things. Just because i have no lift, no hacking up of body panels, no bigger than stock tires? That means i have no mods? Right.

Thats why i haven't been like all the other kids with build threads, i know people like you would drop by to lay those comments on meh :(
    Oh well.

She's wild and can't be tamed. Don't try to fence her in. She needs to run!

I have a set amount of money taken out of my checking account every Friday and placed in my savings account regardless of how much I spend on anything else. I pay down my debt every month too. Doing it this way for me is nice because I can save without really thinking about it.

That's kind of how I am. Right now I have zero debt but also haven't found a job yet so I'm kind of idle money wise. I have big plans so I look forward to getting a job to buy things and my own place again.

similar to how I do it

    I have 3 accounts

    2 checking 1 savings

work checks are deposited into 1 checking with a debit card attached. same day, x amount is auto drafted into savings, x amount is auto drafted into 2nd checking with no debit card

checking with no debit card is set up to auto draft for bills so the amount put in totals more than my monthly bills.

savings account is set up where I get a higher % interest based on keeping a minimum balance. any unexpected money goes in here.

the debit card account is my "walking around money" and goes to food, entertainment, gas etc...my allowance for the span between each paycheck if you will

I also have 3 credit cards, 2 bank and 1 for lowes. the 2 bank ones stay at home unless I travel, and get paid off each month

this set up prevents me from overspending, or misjudging how much I have each month to spend on me. At the end of each month, if I have more than $100 left in my allowance account, it gets moved to savings

All of this is done after retirement money gets taken out of my check pre-tax.

I just spend less than I earn.
    :notsure:

If I see something superfluous that I want to buy, I calculate how many hours I'll have to work to pay for it. Usually I don't want it so bad after that, haha!

Exactly. $1000 seems like a lot more money when you work out how many hours you'll have to work to earn it.

I also make a point to always spend less than I earn...credit card debt is no good

I am a salaried employee so I don't have the luxury of calculating hours and working OT to meet a set goal for something I don't need. My system works for me

    I know the feeling

I went from making $75K a year to around $40K

Hence the system I put in place to ensure I don't overspend my income
