I would amend this to say if you are going to be towing often, use the 4.56. If you take a boat/trailer that weighs 4000 lbs, have 33" tires, and 4.11 gearing, the power is going to be similar to that of stock tires and stock gearing, and you will certainly feel the weight of the trailer behind you. Think of pulling the same trailer but without the truck in overdrive. It kicks up RPMs, drops fuel economy a little, and provides more power. 4.56 gears will put your RPMs up a little more for the same speeds as 4.11.

Think of how much you think you will actually be towing. If you think you will tow a lot, then go with the 4.56. If you think it will be more like once or twice a month, go 4.11.

Jose, next big one is August trip. I have also decided that I am not such a fan of these step bars, so when I am west next, I want to give them to you, which will probably be Wed Aug 13 or Thursday the 14. They have been abused a little.

that sounds fun I might be able to make that. Have you been there before? Is it manageable with 3" lift but no armor?

Keeping the 3rd Gen, I'll keep building that and it will still serve as the fishing/hunting/dog/camping/wheeling rig. I'm going to do a few things to the new one for now, probably a lift, either Toytec or Icon, can't decide if I want to spend the extra $$$ for Icon, and some different wheels(black) and 285s. Probably sliders. It will be a mall crawler for the most part. I might take it out on some tame shit now and then. Maybe later on in it's life. But I've said stuff like that before...

I did the run last september. The trail is rated as "easy" but in my opinion its a medium. Yes you will be perfectly fine, there was a tacoma that came with us with a 3 inch lift and 285's and didn't have a problem. Heck there was a stock '99 4runner with street tires that made it, would I do it again if I were him? No haha. Locker is not needed but might help, I don't have one. I was thinking about doing the Forest Service Road that by passes the first half of the trail, since I don't have a lift at all, just 265 Toyo MT's.

^^^ It's manageable with 3" and no armor. Just take your time. When it's dry, even a stock truck has a fighting chance.

lol well a Taco with 3" and 285's should be fairly capable.

The truck that came with us did great. 3" lift and 285's will get you just about anywhere you could ever want to go haha except the Rubicon trail, but knowing people these days someone has probably done that too with this setup.

The biggest worry for me is hitting my oil pan or something on a rock.

Er, the group that I roll with normally in the PNW did the Rubicon last week:
1 FJ 3" lift, sliders, skids, 33" KM2, ARB bumper, winch = lots of scraping on skids and sliders
1 03 Taco DB No Bed (caged), 3" lift, sliders, skids, 31" MT, AP bumper, winch, elocker = lots of scraping on skids and sliders.
1 89 Trooper, 3" lift, factory skids, rear air locker, 33" KM2, sliders = bumpers messed up and lots of scraping on skids and sliders.

    It can be done.
I was unable to make the trip due to other personal commitments.
They said Cadillac Hill was scary.

I guess ill make it an official trail run. Does saturday the 26th work for anyone? If not meet up and run friday if people are free, just to beat some jeeps that go up.

From experience the trail is rough and gave me a headache last time from so much bouncing so I will be camping that night. Hopefully at the lake but if there is still to much snow then there are plenty of spots along the forest service road. So if anyone would like to join that is great.

Where: Cle Elum, Gallagher Head Lake Trail
Meet up: North Bend chevron station?
    Time: TBA
Trail Comms: I have Ham radio, CB, and small hand helds.

    Going:
    northwesttaco (camping)
    penguins_cc

    Maybe's:
    JDAM
    Digiratus (camping)

I am up for the trail run on the 26th but I probably will not camp if that works with you...

Yeah thats fine! I just remember last time I was really tired for some reason at the end of the trail and was really glad I camped.

These guys just did the trail a few weeks ago. Look through the pages to find the pictures, the first one with all the snow was done over memorial day weekend. I guess they made it up to the lake just fine.
