Just finished swapping out the plugs. Took about 1.5 hours. Next time it will be probably about 1 hour. Pretty straight forward with this handy thread and a Chiltons by my side. I was curious if I didnt attach the coils onto the end of the plugs as a i replacing each plug. But I guess they seated themselves when I reinstalled the coils because the truck now idles like a kitten. I cant even tell if the truck was running while idling!! I decided to torque the plugs to 10 Nm instead of Chiltons reccommended 20Nm. Just seemed too much for precious plugs. I also tweaked the gap a hair in order to get right at .043". I know that isnt reccommended but I did it before I read not too... No harm done.

Fun and cheap little maintenance project. Thanks for the thread!!:)

    i didn't notice anything.

i hate when people say this sort of thing, but the engine drives like it just came off the factory floor. i'm sure there are some minor differences, but it runs like a top after 101K miles

    +1

It's called "maintenance" for a reason.
People that claim huge power gains with "special" plugs, or by going from copper to platinum or iridium... they would have seen the same gains with a new set of copper plugs because they left their plugs in too damned long.

You should not see an improvement with any routine maintenance... the idea is to "fix" things before they become a problem.

Ya, but it shouldn't be noticeable.
If you notice it "running like new" with new plugs, you went too long.
It's a Toyota. It should "run like new" until you tow it to the salvage yard as long as it is maintained properly.

I returned to getting a consistent 20 to 21.5 MPG. I don't record it, but I generally check every fill up. As I stated above, I had noticed a drop which prompted me to change them at 93K miles, versus waiting until I hit 100K.

Today I changed the plugs and cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body. It revs a little higher on cold start but it's only been one start since the work, hopefully it will mellow a bit as the computer adjusts, had the battery disconnected for a couple hours while doing the work. It doesn't run any smoother but it always ran smooth - did the maintenance because 105k miles, not any driveability or performance issues. Everything went well, pretty easy work actually.

Just replaced mine for the first time at 130k miles. They looked surprisingly good, probably could have gone another 50, but meh for 20 dollars might as well change them especially since it was so easy. Thanks for the thread, wish they would give this kind of detail in my Haynes book...

i've got an excel file with mileage data by year/month/tank going back to when i purchased it in nov 05. i don't see any noticeable difference after the change. the only real variances i ever see are caused by road trips and cold/warm weather.
