    Chris (ABA180),

These are for you. I just pulled them out of my Mom's cellar. I've already got the tires inflated and I need to give them a good scrub and once over.

Yeah, same here. I wasn't even on the highway, either.
My home town got flooded out, too. Two feet of water on Broadway for the evening news last night, haha!

But man, people are stupid. I went grocery shopping after work (which happened to be shortly after they issued a tornado warning for western Maine), and I literally watched the bread aisle empty out. Same thing for eggs and milk. It's a thunderstorm; not a three-day blizzard!

It was pretty nuts. I saw a Coyote Mustang fly by doing probally 65-70 and not 100yds down the road hit a spot of pooled water and get all squirrely almost causing a nice pileup on 295 by Biddeford. Some people are just dumb, speed and low pro tires in a monsoon don't mix...

Gah, was going to get 33x10.5 BFG AT's even though I really don't like them because 33's would look so much better. BJ's in Portsmouth has them for ~168/tire + $15/tire install with a $70 instant coupon, so essentially covering install. But Tire rack has 31x10.5 Grabber AT2's on sale for $127:eek:. Sent Town Fair Tire an email seeing if they will price match the $127/tire. Also made it clear that I would pick them up at the CT distro center, so they can't factor in any shipping cost, and that they would have no sales tax if I purchased from Tirerack and picked them up. We'll see what happens...

I never understood that mentality in a blizzard... You could potentially be on house arrest for days, likely to loose power, lets go out and buy all the perishable stuff we can. In a blizzard where I could potentially be locked up for a few days, I'm going after water and canned food.

No common sense is the problem, and lack of comprehending that the your local open 24hrs/7day/365 Price Chopper/ Stop & Shop, etc.. may have to close if conditions get bad enough. Also, I think a general lack of people learning as children basic survival/camping skills that has led to a mentality that what I need will always be available at the corner store.

Hate Grabber AT2's. I had them in 31's on a Nissan Hardbody and they chopped all to hell, even with frequent rotations (every 3k when I changed the oil) and a couple of rebalances.
    They had decent traction, though.

    Meh.
At least with a blizzard you've got tons of natural refrigeration available.
I want to get an old icebox, so the next time we lose power I can just move my perishables into that. This winter when we lost power for the week around Christmas I was stuck using a couple of coolers. They worked, but the food endured a lot of freeze/thaw cycles.

I keep enough food on hand that really my only blizzard prep is to fill the tanks on the trucks and fill the wood racks for the stoves. We've got a hand pump for water if the power goes out, and the wood cookstove, grills, and coleman for cooking.
I do want to get a propane kitchen range, though. I hate the electric one we've got now.

Depends on the tires. The Toyo Proxes T1-S I had were awesome in the rain. I couple snowflakes and I wasn't going anywhere though.

I did a bunch of reading on them last night. They revised them sometime in 2012, so maybe the chopping has changed? I was looking more at the traction side of them, specifically their reported excellent traction in winter/ icy conditions and their severe snow service rating. They seem to be basically a BFG AT, with an updated tread compound that;s not rock hard, and slightly wider voids in between treads. Plus reportedly very tough sidewalls.

As much as I want a 33" tire since they just look so much better, when having a moment of reasonable thinking factoring in the amount of driving I do a year in all conditions, and the amount I actually get out and off-road a 31" aggressive AT tire going to be just fine. And then i'll just scour craigslist for a set of used 33x10.5 BFG KM2's and beat up 15" alloys to use for offroading if I come across them.

Depends how much rain too. Low pro tires like that just don't do well in heavy rain/ standing water. I've had all the top ones on my track car: Dunlop Star Specs (now Direzza), Bridgestone Re-11's, Yoko Advan AD08's ,Hankook RS-3's, Conti SportContact. None were good in standing water at highway speeds. There was very little tread depth/ actual tread on them. Maybe the Mustang had less aggressive street tires, but still low pro tires in general don't have the tread depth/ voids to evacuate heavy water.

Could be. I had them on that truck in 2009-ish, so it's entirely possible that they've fixed the chopping problem. I'm sure that the much-abused and worn suspension on that Nissan didn't help matters either.
One other thing was the awful awful gas mileage I got with them. The entire time I had them on I never got over 16 mpg. On the same truck I averaged 17-19 with Cooper Discoverer ST's. They may have addressed that also by now, though.
