The dealer finally called after over a month from the inspection and they are going to do absolutely nothing.
If I want to get it fixed on my own I'm welcome to it.

Now what to do with the truck.

It will hide the holes and the visible issues.

Basically just to keep the stupied people from complaining and prolong the inevitable. From looking at the pics here it seems many of you never ever looked under your trucks or did anything about it rusting away so for people like that they will get it sprayed and think everything's fine for another couple years.

For people like me who take care of their trucks and would never ever let them get as bad as most of you have - it will help me save my frames replacement for years if it's good stuff.

and the boxed portion is very easy to get to. Put some rust reformer in a spray bottle and go to town spraying it from the front/rear/and side holes. Once it cures top coat it with fluid film or some oil based stuff.

I'm going to really have to disagree with that. The hole in my frame formed from the inside of of two sandwiched and boxed sections spray all you want your not coating that. The surface rust went from nothing to wtf over this last winter.

Access to inside the boxed section is easy. Ive routinely cleaned mine out for the six years Ive owned it. You can get it cleaned by sticking a stream of water in the cab mount, holes in the fender, the holes in the front of the truck (accessible with bumper removed), and the rear where it goes from boxed to a C.

All I'm saying is there is no excuse to have rust covering every inch of your frame and be crying about Toyota sucking. I won't disagree that the frames are flawed, but I won't turn a blind eye to what I think is owner negligence.

When I'm done rust reforming and coating my frame in a few weeks Ill post up before and after pictures. Ive done it many times over the years, but I skipped last year so it was extra bad.

Anyone have any resources to submit to my attorney generals office? links to NHTSA, civil complaints, lawsuits, other related?

i created an NHTSA complaint and will be sending out my letter to my State's regional Attorney Generals Bureau of Consumer Protection.

So far i've had the dealer inspect and document the frame perforation and contact Corporate and i've been told they won't cover the repair.

Today i contacted Toyota Customer Experience (800-331 4331) and opened a case with regard to the frame corrosion and perforation.

    Any advice is appreciated!

On some points I agree but on others I have to disagree...

Surface corrosion is one thing, that is an easy fix and can be monitored by the owner with basic upkeep.

Where I do not agree with you is in the condition called inter-granular corrosion which takes place in the manufacturing process. That type of corrosion is purely unavoidable and I don't care how much you baby your frame if it is there then it is there. I have seen it in aircraft and have seen it in other applications where ferrous and non ferrous alloys are used.

Say what you want but this is a failure at the manufacturing level not end consumer neglect. Otherwise why would they recall all of Dana's first gen frames.

I'm in the same boat you are! My dealer here in Charleston SC documented the perforation in my frame and submitted it to corporate. The service rep called me a few days later and told me since the truck is no longer registered in NJ where the original owner bought it, I am out of luck. I bought it used from Toyota Scion of North Charlotte, NC back in Jan. I had no idea the 2nd gens had this problem until reading about it on TW. My 2000 Prerunner survived 7 winters in Ohio and still looked really good! I also washed it pretty thoroughly. Sounds like its time to lawyer up unfortunately!

I believe Maryland is on the list. Delaware is.

Sad thing about this is you are definitely going to go thru another winter before the DMV area gets the green light.

Does someone have a link to the toyota tacoma frame maintenance and rust prevention manual, because I've never seen one.

    Kinda curious..

washing off, and spraying with rust converter/paint/fluid film type stuff is good and all. And will surely keep the frame nicer, but in the real world, how many owners will spend the time performing rust preventative maintenance often enough to be effective? And who is going to remove the front bumper to wash out the boxed section? How many other vehicle manufacturers have had this type of issue on such a large number of models? Who makes Toyota frames today?

Ford just recalled 500 thousand and Subaru. if it steel it will rust. All manufactures have issues especially if the vehicle is around salt. My jeep is rusting away. I also did not do any preventative measures for the jeep.

I'm going to have to agree here. Going through all of that is not normal/acceptable maintenance requirements to place on an owner. How many other manufacturers are plagued by this problem? I read something about jeeps and frame rot, but I expect that from a Chrysler product but not a Toyota!

I have a 2005 that has 60k on it, Always power wash and spray rust converter/reformer 2 times a year as I don't want the rust or the appearance of rust, The frame is delaminating to the point I can stick 3 inches of my pocket knife into the frame! Not a hole but between the layers of steel! It has little to do with maintenance XXXX but a lot to do with a poor frame builder!!
