Like many people, my 2009 double cab has the yellow sticker that says my load carrying capacity has been reduced by 290 lbs. I received a letter from Toyota today with a new yellow sticker.

As I was reading the letter, it sounded like they were sending me the new sticker based on some dealer installed options and the instructions said to place the new sticker over the old sticker. When I looked at the new sticker, it says that my load carrying capacity has been reduced by 5 pounds..........those dealer installed options have increased my load carrying capacity by 285 pounds (LOL).

    Whats gives?

I have a 2006 SR5 4x4 Dbl Cab. You're kidding me right? Your payload capacity is only 285/290 lbs? If this is true, there is a lawsuit in the making here. This is supposed to be a "truck". My daughter's Honda Accord can carry more than that in the trunk!!!!! I have no such sticker on my 2006 and if I did, I'd sue.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
reduced "to" 285 means it can only carry 285....reduced "by" 285 means that the original capacity was say 1200 and now its 1200-285=915...just an example

I had seen the thread/poll about the sticker (even read far enough thru it to see that not everyone had 290 lbs and some people had a handwritten number), but was interested if anyone else had gotten a letter with a "revised" sticker.

Also, I can see if they were going to increase the "standard" 290 lbs due to dealer installed options, but how would they somehow reduce the 290 lbs? If they are saying that the initial calculations were in error, then I would guess that everyone would be getting the letter.

I went to the last page or two of the sticker poll thread to see if anyone had mentioned the letter, but I didn't see any reference to it.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
My '09 did not have a sticker when I bought it and I did have the AAl TSB done. I just got a sticker in the mail saying my payload has been reduced by 4lbs. Just four. It says to put the new sticker over the old sticker but as I said, there is no old sticker. I think this is their legal loophole to get out of any future suspension TSB's.

Well, I just went thru the whole thread/poll for the sticker and found that:

    1. Back in June (I think it was) someone was told by Toyota that the 290 lbs was a standard number and that revised stickers would be sent out by the end of the year based on what was actually installed in each truck (including dealer installed options).

    2. There was one person (at the end of the thread) that said they had gotten a revised sticker in the mail - don't know how I missed it.

So, I guess there should be a lot of people receiving mail form Toyota.

Supposedly, the sticker is in response to some new federal regulation, but most people think it has to to with the whole TSB issue - so that they don't have to include the 2009 models.

So, do you guys with the 2010's have the AAL tsb? Did your truck come with 3 leaf springs or 4? I'm just wondering because I got the same sticker as you and not the other guys with 09's and I think the only difference between my 09 and theirs is the AAL tsb.

not to many, love it the way it is

Most people who buy the taco prefer the soft suspension ride here in America. Before building 2nd gen trucks Toyota did a census for 1st gen trucks and found out that Americans complained about the stiff ride in the first Gen and wanted a softer ride so the 2010 models still have the 3 pack suspension. A vast majority of taco owners know nothing of the 4 pack tsb and do not care

Alright so im sorta new to the 2nd generation tacomas i used to own a 2000 sr5 v6 and all this weight reduction thing sort of confuses me a bit and concernes me as well because i actually somehow managed to snap a leaf in my last truck. so can someone explain why the weight is lowered by 290 on my truck and what dealer installed options will bring my weight back up. also what is AAL and TSB (tacoma short bed?)

My new 2009 double cab says it is reduced by 5lbs due to modifications. The truck is a base model except for floor mats. So, I am guessing that the floor mats weigh 5 lbs.

It's interesting to note the differences between the Canadian and US market Tacomas... I was down at Toyota's import lot yesterday, and out of curiosity, took a look at the 2010 Taco's, which all had the 4 leaf packs, with the exception of the 2wd base model, which only had the 3. Also, none of them had stickers saying anything about weight reduction... I would have thought US (HOME of the Pickup Truck) models would have had the beefier suspension!
