Shit painter can make way more than welders if you find the right job, I was bringing home 1050$ a week with hotel rooms and all my food paid for, and didn't even have to drive my truck man I miss that job

 

First sentence is truth. It can pay good but more then likely, you have a long grinding career ahead of you. Whether it be in the union, at a local off-road shop or in the middle of the Atlantic ocean on a navy ship, no welding career is easy or set in stone to provide you a consistent good living. I know plenty of welders and they all complain about the same thing ........ Lack of consistent work

Luckily or shop hasn't really had that problem we where a bit slow the beginning of this year but looks like overtime for the rest of the year.

 

Oh no I've made 2500 a week before. Erecting wind mills. 32 and 180.
That was 5 weeks

 

That's pretty good but the thing I liked about painting was we always had a line of jobs waiting for us

 

Oh of coarse the inconsistency can exist in any trade business but welding def poses a higher risk of it. Let's take electrical work as a comparison. How many objects (buildings, vehicles, machines, electronics devices, toys, etc .....) need some form of electrical work preformed on them to operate? Now how many of those same items need welding work preformed on them to operate? It's just such a smaller field of work. Maintenance is a massive part of that as well. For example, the food plant I've been working at is a 15000 sq ft warehouse full of machines, conveyor belts, tanks and other strange contraptions, all of which are stainless and 90% of which is custom hand made parts. They run 24/7 and there is always something that's breaking down or getting moved around for different engineering product design or something being added or deleted for experimental purposes and out of all the people that work here to keep things running, there is 10 maintenance men at all times, 2-4 electricians at all times and 1 welder who has trouble sometimes staying here for his 8 hours a day.

The good ones are. The cheap ones are a few hundred dollars. Sir free stuff found some ultra cheap ones.
