Ok guys so I'd like some of your opinions on this. I'm considering selling my 08 Prerunner and buying a new 2014 TRD OF DC. I'm a current college student. I have about two years left of school.

I'm partially afraid to get a new truck and be around all the idiots who can't drive and messing up my truck. There have already been multiple times where I've had dings and scrathes show up on my 08 from parking on campus. It doesn't bother me as much as it would if my truck were brand new, but I take damn good care of it and it was pristine before the last year.

I really miss having 4X4. Usually it's not too much of a problem. I'm a huge outdoorsman. I'm constantly hunting, fishing, and all that kind of stuff. That's when it gets to be a problem for me. I can get through most stuff, but I like to be respectful of people's land and not gouge ruts everywhere because I'm having to haul ass to get through slop.

What actual MPG are you guys seeing? Especially in the city. My 08 gets about 17.1 on the highway and is pretty crappy in town. I've heard the new ones get better, but I'd like to see what you guys are experiencing.

I'm also starting to get a little bored with my truck the way it is. I could start modding pretty heavily, ie: armor, wheels, headers/exhaust, suspension... I've been holding off on doing that because I've been considering a new truck. Why spend the money modding this truck when I'll have to spend the money for most of the same mods later on a new truck. If I keep the truck for a couple years, I don't mine dropping money on mods.

My financial situation is pretty good. I have a lot of money saved and the VA takes care of me pretty well financially. I can afford a new truck without it being much of a burden.

I also don't want to buy a newer used truck. I'd rather have a new one with a warranty that will last a while than to buy a used one that someone could've abused pretty hard.

I'm sure there's some other things that I haven't even factored into this equation. Let me know your opinions folks. Your input is greatly appreciated!

If you like the new front end, then I would save some $$$ and buy a used 2012 DC 4x4 and mod it to your liking.

I guess I should've included that I don't want to buy a newer used truck.

Probably my vote too. I understand the need and desire for 4 wheel drive. but you can save a little if you can find a good used truck you like, then start modding. Don't mod away on something you know you want to replace.
Now I see that you said you don't want to buy used..
In that case, I'd still say buy new, just cause you want the 4 wheel drive. Get something you know you're going to love.

I'd say save your truck, do some mods or whatever to kind of make your truck more interesting..
Then once your out of college buy a newer Tacoma. That's what i would do man!

If you're buying a new truck, then hold of on mods that you can't transfer to a new truck. You could do things like bolt-on sliders, etc and move them to a new vehicle. I've actually found that sliders have helped me with door dings as most cars now hit my sliders rather than my door.

That's a pretty good idea on the sliders... I've never considered getting them before because I don't offroad anywhere with rocks.

Your truck isnt even that old so I would wait for the newly redesigned Tacomas whenever those come out haha. I'd keep saving up your money.

Truck stuff is secondary at best. First is debt. Exit college as debt-free as you can possibly manage. Trucks aren't going anywhere, they'll be around after you graduate.

I would keep the 08, treat yourself to a new truck if you land a good job after college.

Keep the old one, buy new once you land the job after school.

My (old) truck was never safe on campus; I'd hate to try to protect a new truck there.
