I told my wife we could do that but both of us felt a little uneasy leaving the kids down below while they are so young. If they are older it makes more sense.

How old? My 5 and 7 year old slept in the annex a couple of weekends ago during a trip to NC.

2 and a new baby soon. My biggest concern is that most of the places we camp in have bears. Not grizzlies fortunately, but black bears that aren't in their right mind have been known to stumble into camps. If that happened and just the little ones were down there it could go downhill fast.

We took to the kids to a zombie chemlab place that you walk thru in Myrtle beach. Freaked us all out. Here's a pic of the entry video roomuqezu2y2_a61b85c9098d6235d28a2173dbbaa9bd06a3fec3.jpg

The last place we camped had a bear problem, and were about to deploy a bear trap IN A CAMPSITE about 3 down from us. One of the rangers did a "show and tell" about the red fox after dinner, but he made a point of reminding us about the bear and warning us that they can smell candy a mile away, through the wrapper, and telling the kids not to sneak any candy to bed.

At one point, I work up to the crunch, crunch of gravel nearby. As I sat there listening, I had a moment of panic when I realized I couldn't remember if I put the last chocolate bar away after doing s'mores that night. I grabbed my pistol and hit the panic button on my keys to set the truck alarm off for a few seconds. Woke my wife and kids up.

Turned out to be the next site over packing up to leave before dawn. :der:

Meanwhile, after breakfast I checked my shorts and what did I find in a cargo pocket? A Hershey bar. :D

My wife was not amused. :smack:

Oh, and I wouldn't put any that small that far away from me either, bears or not.

That's pretty funny! I always remember how well dogs smell. Which is pretty damn good-to the point of knowing the candy bar was in your pocket. Whether it is now or not is irrelevant :D

I won't tell your wife

Thanks man that's perfect. Exactly the height I want. Now to figure out how to mount a mt bike on the side of those side rails. Has anyone done this?

Easy peasy. Have a couple of tabs mounted along the base of the cap rail that can hold your favorite mount. I think Alex had something like this.

I've had lights underneath the bedrails for a while now, but when the bed is loaded up with gear, it blocks the lights and they're pretty much useless sometimes. Since the RTT is mounted back there 24/7, I figure might as well mount some lights to it. I hooked up a quick disconnect just in case I take off the RTT or bed rack. They're a little blue for my taste, but I'm not complaining about $8 shipped from Amazon :D

This guy did it with a trailer

But if you had a long enough cross bar, you can mount the RTT and a kayak mount next to it

Tent on a bed rack and below the cab. Yak on the cab roof.

Although this is a 4Runner, you get the idea:

My RTT (closed) and roof basket are level. I'm sure I can sit a kayak on top and strap it down
