I won't be there but my wife will be near Denver for about the first half go August.

I'm still figuring it out. Not really sure which way to go. But everything is west of Denver so I might come from the west side of the state so I can go back out that way too

and yes Mark if u are coming through junction, there is no point in coming to denver if u r leaving back towards the west.... anybody on the western slope thinking about making this? maybe they would have a place for tires?

Basicially. Everything is on the west slope. So that would be the way I would go out, so I might as well come in that way too

But then again everything seems close enoigh I could come through Denver and it's not a big deal. Really not sure

Also had a thought. It would be nice after driving to end in Denver and start the first day from there and roll out. Instead of having to find a camping spot after driving from Boise.

Thanks man. I think after the drive it would be nice to start the trip the next day and just drive there with everyone

 

If you go with that option you could always take the Wyoming route. Slightly quicker from SLC but it's just boring as heck since there's nothing to look at. But you don't have to deal with the windy roads, elevation changes, and the I-70 traffic. Then you could stop in Denver and head back west the next day.

Hmm, I might be able to come for a weekend...its so close!

 

I am already planning to be out there 9/3-9/10! However, I am still quite a noob to offroading, have mastered easy trails and only done a few moderate ones. Not sure if my skill level will allow me to join, but if there are some easier trails I'd be down to join if you are going 9/4-9/7!

 

Most of the trails discussed are not "easy", in fact some of the more difficult ones in the state. However, most of the connector trails are pretty mellow with amazing scenery, you could do them and ride with someone on the tougher stuff, Wheeler and Holy Cross are out and backs.

Do you have plans for the rest of your trip, or just winging it?

 

I just went down through Wyoming and back home on the I-70. Wyoming has an 80mph speed limit, and everyone drives 85-90... doesn't take long to get to Laramie from Idaho. I-70 does have some traffic, but it sure is a pretty drive through Vail if you've never been there.

 

Thanks for the advice! I was planning on getting some info, had posted a thread in the CO sub forum but so far no hits. Been looking at trail damage.com but it's overwhelming with how many trails there are! Any advice on trail books since I'm planning to go solo? Atlas, peter masseys backcountry adventure book, fun treks book? I don't want to hijack this thread so you can Pm or reply to my other thread, my main thing is I want to do the Alpine Loop and really want some high mountain scenery (vast green plains, passes). Those pics from red cone are gorgeous!

Some of the gas stations in my area carry that book on the shelf. Otherwise you could order it online from out of state in order to do some pre-planning.
