Thanks for a great write up. I finished my shovel mount the other day.

one question here.... why would you guys mount the shovel in the bed, especially under a tonneau cover?.... then you have to put a muddy shovel in your nice dry bed when you use it...

Why put a muddy shovel in your nice carpeted and upoholstered cabin when you can put it in a washible composite bed?

eh.. im gonna try for a bedrack over the tonneau that im getting soon, ideally id put the shovel on there, along with a jack so all the muddy/dirty stuff stays outside the bed with my nice dry camping gear in it.

I have mine under the cover for added security so it doesn't walk off as easily. I have no problem cleaning up a truck bed or shovel thats a little muddy.

As for your future plans....I like the idea, but it seems so limiting on use and convenience of your bed. My tonneau can come completely off in less than a minute and I can have full access to my bed.

yeah, im still in the planning stage, its not gonna be anything like what most vendors make that can support a full tire and what not, it will probably be just for a jack, a shovel and a fire extinguisher, so i can get away with only tying it in to the bedsides with a quick release compared to something bolted to the bedrails
