***Official 2nd gen scangauge/ultra-gauge/torque readings***

Just for the 2nd gen guys/gals (there is a 1st gen thread too)

Post your method....... scangauge, ultra-gauge, torque app, or other (specify).


let us know your mods (if they may change things up) like a trans cooler, tow package, non tow package, supercharger, aftermarket exhaust, no cats, aftermarket cats, valve body upgrades, toolboxes, trailers, campers.

If this trip was up a lot of grades, a hot day, a cold day, hauling a load (of), a long trip, etc.

this way we can compare and get an average reading for those of us who use OBD2 and or other gauges.

Ths way we have numbers to compare to instead of just running blind.

hopefully this becomes stick worthy............ may help MANY future questions, especially when someone gets a new OBD2 gauge and wants to know if his/her readings are acceptable

 

I like it, but what numbers u looking for? Mpg temps? Loads?

 

its not just me.......... lets get whatever u watch regularly.

trans, water, voltage, trims, cat temps, just your usual.

No telling what a FUTURE user may be looking for.......... Lets not go nuts here, but just use the general numbers you look at personally, unless someone asks specifically for another parameter you dont usually look at, but wouldnt mind sharing?

 

I just got my UG a few days ago and love it.
My intake temp is usually about the same as ambient temp, maybe 1-2 degrees more at times. I do have URD CAI. My engine temp has gotten to about 192* I think so far. Thats driving to and from work on highway (75-80mph) for 25 miles. i'll have to pay attention to some other gauges and post/compare the readings.

 

with the URD, I usually read ambient (at idle) to 2 degress below ambient at 40MPH plus... dont ask how, but it read 2 degrees lower I swear.

stock, and afe stage 2 SI intake temps can vary at idle, but BOTH can get to ambient temps at about the same speed (40mph).

Ive not seen engine temps above 200 yet, even while carrying 600lbs of gym equipment up a large grade at 75... I am supercharged tho.

 

on my 700mi trip this past weekend via torque pro, with PID's for torque converter out and trans pan.

90-112*F ambients, intake usually 5-8* above ambient at cruising speed.... coolant at 186-190 cruising, and pan / tq at 175ish

I think i saw coolant top out at 203 going up a grade bed loaded with gear in 112 ambients.... top temp i saw for tq out was 203 as well but pan never got above 190.

 

pay no mind to the HPR reading, its GOT TO BE WRONG.

I have an ultragauge from a group buy back around january. I have 2.7l 5spd SR5. Only mods currently are an AFE air filter and skid plates for the IFS, transmission and t-case. I monitor my instant fuel mileage, short trip mileage, oil mileage, intake temp, coolant temp and run time.

Instantaneous: Varies too much to be of any use.

Short trip mileage: Was 15mi at 10mpg tonight, but most of that was in 4low first gear.

Intake temp: got up to 150f but that was parked with the motor running tonight. Typically is 5 to 8 degrees above ambient summer/winter, when I can check it against an outside thermometer.

Oil mileage: Useful to nobody but me, 2200 miles.

Coolant temp: Runs anywhere from 194 cruising at 45 to 204 stopped after a fast or uphill push. Think it may run a little hot and need coolant change.

Run time: Since mid january 206 hours.

 

I've seen coolant temps of 210 and transmission pan temps of 230 while towing. Ambient was probably mid 80's.

2013, TRD/OR, Tow Pkg, 4x4, V6, stock tires/size.

Trailer weight was listed at 4800lbs. Traveling between Salt Lake and Grand Junction.

Scangauge II here.
This is what I normally monitor:

Current MPG
AVG MPG - 15-20 MPG city
Air Intake Temp - about 130 summer
Coolant Temp - I've never seen above 190 even in summer with A/C on

I don't think trans temp is available for manual...am I correct?

 

Well the UG is at least half the price ($60!) of SG and from what i can tell the main difference is that UG doesnt tell Trans temp yet. Justus is actually working with them get something going. I believe he might already have the trans temps for the MX model.

 

what do you recommend

 

Have used the bluetooth dongle and the Tourque app to monitor both transmission pan and converter outlet temps on one trip thus far. 07 Pre-runner double cab with factory tow package, TRD Sport. No towing this trip.

Both temps read pretty close to the ambient temps (around 92 F or so) on cold startup. Then about 150 miles of interstate driving where they both equalized and stayed pretty constant at around 160 the whole trip.

Oh yeah... and no other mods at all, not even wheels, Jack!

 

Live in louisiana, its been a mild to hot summer (86-94 degrees).

Air Intake: Always ambient unless I'm idling (URD TCAI). If I'm idle at a light or such and its hot out, it'll scream up to 110 real quick

Coolant: 184-186 in the morning. 186-188 Driving around town. 190 steady driving 75 on the interstate with it very hot outside.
