    Sorry, that was funny!!!

$1100 for spark plugs and new gas is crazy stupid. I seriously doubt that's the issue. Could be your ECM. I had a bad one that triggered the check engine and trac off light, but no mechanical issues were present. Still, that little cpu controls pretty much everything in your truck.

The problem for the dealership is getting rid of the old fuel. I think that is where most of the charge is from.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If the truck is drivable I'd get your truck the fuck away from the dealer and top up with a known good brand of 87 fuel then drive easy until most is replaced with decent fuel.

Spark plugs? We'll see. If so, you can do it for $12.00.

I have seen bad fuel repairs cost that much easy, depending on how well they actually did the repair. However all is not lost! One of the things that we learned at the dealerships is that most auto insurance companies actually COVER this type of repair if you have full coverage!

As for those who suggest a simply fresh tank of gas will fix it, that all depends on how bad the fuel is. Bad gas can permanently foul plugs, and depending on the actual contamination can destroy the nylon lines, as well as the injectors, if not properly taken care of.

my $.02: I was having similar problems in mine a while back and found the culprit to be a dirty MAF... soon as it was cleaned off the truck ran great! this was all learned after a $500 fuel pump replacement however :(

all that said though, if you wanna check this it's super easy and I can PM you how if you do

also: not saying this is definitely the culprit, but worth checking sense it's free and not $1100

Dude, go to the dealership, but some new plugs, maybe a hat, or coffee mug, get a buddy and some beer for that coffee mug and make a half day out of it, siphon the gas out, or at least as Mich as you can, then put high octane gas in it and fuel injector cleaner, you'll be good!

Don't we have an anti siphon deal?

Prolly have to drop the tank and undo that huge seal and siphon that way.....

I swear the neck has some kinda theft deterrent.

Whatever Butthead - That's what my 2014 manual says. I was summing up the statement - how the hell are you supposed to research octane 91 to see if it's ok for your truck?

And higher octane doesn't always mean better. Engines are tuned for specific octane ratings.

$1100.00? That's crazy! $40.00 for new plugs and a couple of hours of labor to drain the tank. I'd do it myself and tell the dealer to stick it! Hopefully the dealer's diagnosis is correct...

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
There's an easier way...though when it was done with my truck it was at a Toyota dealer. Pumped a load of watergas into my truck 700 miles into a 1400 mile trip. The tech disconnected the fuel line in the engine bay and used a badass Toyota laptop to turn the fuel pump "on" and used the pump to empty the tank. Our pumps must empty the tank fairly well as I refueled the truck and barring a little less mpgs for a while everything was fine...didn't throw any codes etc rest of trip. I believe the bill was in the $300 range. I did not need new plugs. Started truck when it happened at pump and didn't even get the milage wrote down before it stalled. Poured two bottles of heat in it trying to get her going, but to no avail. Watched my truck ride away on a rollback in a strange small town 9 hours from home.

Edit: Props to Fort's Toyota in IL for getting the truck running again by 10:30 on a Monday morning after it had been dropped off late Sunday evening. Got me in first thing, explained what was wrong and how they remedied the issue, then put me in passenger seat and took me for a ride showing me the diagnostics on the laptop. Even came and picked me up at my hotel 10 miles away in their courtesy car. Thanks Again guys!

5 gallon buckets. Easy. Pour gas in buckets, wait a day, siphon gasoline off water which will settle on the bottom -->profit--> f*ck bitches.

Sorry, but while YOU might do it that way, dealerships don't. We don't know WHAT has the fuel contaminated. Nobody specifically said the OP had water in the fuel. He was told it was contaminated. There are a lot of different things that can contaminate fuel. No dealership is going to take that chance. When I was at the dealer we ran into contaminated fuel all the time. We would have to drain it all out and it went into specific 250 gallon tanks to be disposed of by the oil company that came out to take the old oil and antifreeze away.

Obviously I realize this isn't a valid option at a dealership. Just throwing it out there for anyone who was draining their own. Normal water/dirt contamination is easily dealt with using this method.

I was not charged for disposal by dealer when my incident happened and my tank was brimming at the time.
