2014 NCAA Football Thread

These are the types of things that intensify rivalries. I have some friends that are actually working on the Kyle Field rennovations and I was told that they actually had to go back and check all of this crane operator's work because some of the steel was being put in improperly. Apparently he was somewhat inept at his job. The media wouldn't print that though, it's not news worthy.

Any word on Nick Marshall yet?

 

I think they're waiting until SEC Media days are finished to announce anything. Smart move. Malzahn won't get blasted with Marshall questions again like on monday. Can focus on the rest of the team.

I personally don't have a clue who will win. I think it's pretty wide open due to the lack of returning starting quaterbacks. But only having 4 players on the first team offense that AREN'T from Alabama or Auburn is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention Todd Gurley being the only player from the SEC East on first team offense...

 

The media loves quotes from Steve Spurrier & Les Miles. They both are experts at running of the mouth. Not too sure about the West side but on the East I'd pick Mizzou again....then Georgia.

 

Oh they're always good for a colorful remark. I honestly think there's uncertainties for everyone. I think Auburn will be good again, bama always has plenty of talent(they only have game managers at QB anyways), LSU is the same way(lots of talent but young), A&M will improve on defense and offense will still be well above average, Ole Miss has gotten better each year for the past few, MSU has Dak and competed well last year. I don't think the SEC West will have an undefeated team this year. They're all going to beat up on each other.

I'm much less up to date on the east. I think Mizzou will be good with Mauk but the loss of DGB will be noticable. If Thompson plays up to his abilities, they're the only team I can see going undeated for the entire conference. I wouldn't put any money on that though. Richt always has Georgia ready to compete. Mason is inheriting a Vandy team that can be really good. Who knows about Florida.

 

I think Georgia would've walked away with the East title last season if all the injuries hadn't happened.

 

I can't disagree. The 4th quarter of the UGA-Auburn game was possibly the best I've ever seen.

 

Funny part is that once the stadium reopens they will be flying the flags of all the sec schools.

 

I read the other day that they're picking Clemson to beat Georgia, Florida St. & South Carolina this season.

I think we all know about Florida...... truly the mighty have fallen at that school.

Mauk scared the shit out me in last years game....Connor pulled a miracle out of his ass.

Thompson.....pocket passer......has me worried if the O-line isn't ready.

Richt............Gurley is the one that worries me.

Vandy.....can be a pain in the ass.

Florida......probably still on self destruct mode.

And they picked Klempson last year to beat us. Never have I seen football commentators give so much attention to a crap team that beats up on cupcake ACC teams but when they actually have to play somebody they get cut down at the knees. Most of the commentary stems from our mediocre historical performance that was hit or miss from the past 40 or so years. I still hear Klempson fans spout off that "its ok, the stars will align once again because they're USC and they can't win...." well we hold the longest home winning steak in the country, we've been ranked in the top 25 (without ever falling off the list I might add) for the last 4 years, we've made some big teams look mighty small, we have recruited our assess off, we have a damn good coach, we FINALLY have an AD that takes sports seriously, we have a school thats finally pouring much needed money into facilities and coaching staff, etc. The fact of the matter is that when commentators keep running their mouths there is only one way to shut them up.... win. Frankly, I like our chances against anybody. BTW, whats Klempson going to do without their precious quarterback they have had on a pedestal for the past 4 years..... guess we'll find out.....
