Or you could go poop in the pool; that appears to pass for fun there and should relieve the boredom as well. :notsure:

icy creams all gone... :notsure: The boss bought us treats today.

Of course I'm going camping! Gotta get out of the heat and the smoke. But I have to drive through a small town with a music festival to get to where I'm going. First year they've done the festival so it could be interesting...might have to investigate alternate routes.

You got any plans? Going 'but fishing?

Had 'but fishing plans, but weather is not going to cooperate. :( cause it's a great fishing tide. Oh well, as you well know, it's not wise to fight the weather. Not sure what we're gonna do now. Had leave forecasted for Tue & Wed for a 5 day break; might save the 18 hrs leave to use another time. Still got a few maintenance things to do to the 6x6. I'll at least get that done. Feels like I'm running outta Summer again; goes too damn quick. :(

Good luck finding a way around the festival traffic. :)

Are you sure you are not a child of the 60's? ;)

Got the call today asking is we would paint the PreK classroom at the school. Of course I said yes. :D

Probably buy the paint tomorrow, 40% off sale, and do the work on July 28th, 29th and 30th.

Hi Rob. Like your coffee cup!

The only animal we did not see in Alaska was the wolf. We might have had a chance when we did Denali but no luck on a wolf sighting.

Thanks Tom, I've had the cup since 1987. :)

Did you see a Lynx and a Wolverine in the wild? I'm still hoping to see those in the wild some day. They're pretty wary critters.

Nope did not see them. Did you know that the Wolverine is one of only 2 animals that will hunt man for food? The other is the polar bear.

Sorry your fishing got canceled :( But yes, best to do what the weather tells you. Things can change too quickly up there.

what about black bears and grizzly bears and mountain lions?

They do not attack man for food. They attack because they feel threatened by your actions.

Wolverines and polar bears will stalk man for a meal.

Yep, I've read that somewhere since we moved here. Driving the Haul Road to Deadhorse and taking a Polar Bear viewing tour is on our bucket list of trips we want to do.

Yep, Alaska and the weather will try to kill you up here; when they team up, it's best to fold. IMHO

mountain lions will stalk people too. and the local bear biologist says that if a black bear attacks you its because it thinks you are food, if a grizzly attacks its because it thinks you are competition for their food.
I wanna do a polar bear tour! A local photographer was in Canada and they have these custom build rigs that have an enclosed passenger cabin and a glass floored viewing deck and giant ass tires to keep you up out of harms way

I hope I never have a close encounter with any bear. I once saw a duck land in the water of the polar bear display at the Maryland Zoo. It was a tasty snack for the very quick and agile polar bear.

ditto...at least while I'm hiking :D As long as I'm in the truck or have a safe viewing platform I'm all good with close encounters.
When I saw the momma griz and cubs a couple of summers ago I had this little voice in the back of my head telling me to get out of the truck to get a better picture (was shooting out the passenger window from the drivers seat at the time). Momma made eye contact with me and that little voice went away very quickly. Never before did I question the toughness of my truck until I wondered if it could hold up to a grizzly bear attack! And seeing the black bear and cubs this last weekend was awesome but I was on a bridge looking down at them and had 3 or 4 rangers around keeping an eye on things too. In fact I started to back away even before the rangers told us to.
This was the griz I saw and this was about the moment that her and I made eye contact.

And these were the black bears I saw last weekend. This was the last photo I took - the two cubs climbed up on the boulder and were staring back up at everyone on the road like "what's everyone staring at? what's the big deal?" so funny...
