    Just a reminder..... Check your cabin filters YEARLY. You'll be amazed at how dirty they get!!!

    For me - I've had my truck for 7 years. I owned 2 filters that I cleaned and rotated yearly. After 2 cleanings, they started to fall apart. I bought a new one - 2 years ago. Life got busy and I obviously forgot to clean it last year. Well..... I just took it out and its sooooo bad, I can't clean it. It's all curled and blackened. Yuk!!

    Make it a yearly check...... around the same time you check/change your home filters & such! You'll be glad you did! They're easy to remove.....

    I gotta buy another one.....

    Yup. I just bought a new one from the dealer... $35... Bastards :mad:

    I could only get one cleaning out of it, it does fall apart if cleaned too much.

    I thought of buying aftermarket, but was worried about the fit. Do aftermarkets fit ok?

    The is a posted Mod out there....buy a washable/reusable furnance filter from Home Depot / Lowes. It's sold as an adjustable filter so with a little effort can be made to fit our cabin filter. Do a search if interested.

    I took an old toothbrush to brush off the major stuff, so I can put it back in until a new one arrives.

    The one I have now... was bought thru Amazon.

    It's got carbon or something in it. I'm not sure how the 'carbon' laced filters will do when you try to wash them. But -after a new one arrives, I'll try to clean it. It might get ugly. LOL

    How long does it last? Hard to say..... If you leave it in for too long and it could get nasty within 2 years depending on your area/situation.

    I probably got 3 years out of mine cleaning it once a year, two different times.

    some of these filters are not the same.

    I know at least on my old chevy, that the OEM filters had a charchol element in them as well to reduce / capture the exhaust emissions from other vehicles.

    I order the cheap blue, cardboard trimmed 30 day furnace filters by the case from Amazon. They are $15.60 for a 12 pack on Amazon.

    I measured the cabin filter slot, and cut a square out of the corner, leaving two cardboard edges. Then used duct tape to trim out the rest and slid it in. Works great.

    I no longer own my tacoma but I found a K&N cabin air filter for my corolla and it works very well, I have really bad allergys and asthma and I haven't seen any difference in breathing comfort with the K&N. It was 40 bucks and there's one available for tacoma at auto zone part number VF-2005. Just FYI
